I trying to think of a way we could do a cool MMA league. Kinda like fantasy football.

All my friends do fantasy baseball and football, but I don't really like team sports. So I thought we could do a fantasy MMA league or maybe a betting game to see who wins the most "money" at a given event and just tally it up as the events progress.
Any ideas?
Does that sound cool or am I crazy?

You're not crazy at all. Many things are in the works right now regarding new site functionality.

My friends and I have a fantasy league that we've been playing around with for a while.

We track it on this site. https://sites.google.com/site/fightleagueufc/

It makes the fights a little more interesting when you have something riding on them.

It's been working pretty well.
We all get together with some beers and throw $50 in the pot, draft 2 fighters from each weightclass than just let them battle it out till everyone has fought.

Also, don't try it with more that 6 people because the pickins' get really slim when you're drafting and you need to leave room for injury trades.

would be cool if somehow you didn't draft players and take them from other people.  or you could draft the same players.  the trades/injuries thing is kind of confusing. still yeah, would like to see games like this.

@MasterBlaster, It's not that confusing as long as the group has 1dummy(me) who keeps the website up to date with the trades and scores.

I think we should get Gregory and crew to work on some kind of automated site for this!

I actually make pool sheets that me and my friends use at the bar when we watch the fights.  Not so much fantasy and whatnot, but more of just a pool.  We're not really big spenders, so we all only put $5 in the pot, and the winner takes home about $50 or so.  Usually gets the person a free meal and drinks, at the very least.  All we do is pick who we think will win each fight, how, and in what round.  Basically, what we all do here on Tapology.  Fun stuff.

I actually have a blogspot where I put all the sheets up (shameless plug).  If anyone out there does the same kind of thing, you can take a look at my sheets at MMA Pool Sheets.

Thanks, Bro. We have a lot of fun with it and I see it going on for a long time.

I just wish I had the brains to build a site where you could just plug in the draft picks and fight results and it would automatically take care of the rest.

Awsome! I've been trying to put something like that together for about a year now! I keep running into problems with my buddies being too broke or too cheap to bet, which is troubling considering I only have about 4 good buddies who are in to MMA, when 1 or 2 of em are not down on about 50% of the cards it gets tricky, and hard to believe that its worth while. A site with a fantasy draft would be wicked cool once all the kinks are iron'd out!!!

@zerohours, it's really not hard to do your own google site to track your league,  I just like to ***** about it because I got stuck with the job.
Takes about an hour to put it together and 15-20 minutes after each fight to update it.
I'd like to see more guys doing it so we can compare our rules, problems, additions etc. between our leagues.

My friends and I also have a league... but its a free league and we do it card by card, no drafts.  I'll be taking a look at geezhound's stuff though... maybe incorporate some of his/his friends ideas... sounds cool.

I've done/doing this on another forum, sort of how geezhound's league works. We do a draft and then you get points based on wins/losses/finishes/bonuses/titles. It's fun if people stay active and does make fights that you may not normally care about more interesting. We do it for a full year though rather than ending the league once everyone drafted fought but we also had more fighters (every person got 20 fighters).
I've also seen a more complicated version done where they incorporate fighter rankings and if you draft a fighter in the "B" class and he beats a fighter in the "A" class, you get more points and stuff like that. I believe that the simpler the better, especially when it's done by human hand and not an automated scoring machine like ESPN or Yahoo.
Since geezhound wants to compare, here's the thread on the forum that I'm doing the league. I'm AMPLine4Life over there: http://www.wrestlingforum.com/sports/535565-wf-ufc-fantasy-league.html

That's a really cool set-up you guys have, Jeremy! A little more hardcore than ours at the moment.
I really like the idea of a bonus for an underdog win and may figure a way to incorporate it into our league when this season is over.
Our group likes things REALLY simple, so it's hard to get them to accept changes.
