My Summary

This is really hard to say. Different fighters fight different competition, and styles make fights, so it is hard to determine a true order here, but here's my take.

  1. 1

    "The Last Emperor" Fedor Emelianenko
    Fedor Emelianenko
    "The Last Emperor"
    40-7-0, 1 NC
I'm not a huge fan of the guy, specifically because of his management, but in Pride, his run of wins was undeniable. He beat everyone there was to beat.
  2. 2

    Anderson "The Spider" Silva
    Anderson Silva
    "The Spider"
    34-11-0, 1 NC
Anderson seems to still be in his prime, so being here is incredibly impressive. He is consistently fighting good competition, and by the end of his career he could certainly be the GOAT.
  3. 3

    Georges "Rush" St-Pierre
    Georges St-Pierre
    "Rush"
    26-2-0
I feel stupid for putting GSP here. He is certainly a great fighter, but is he the third best of all time? He has lost to some less than stellar competition somewhat recently in Serra, and now he just grinds out decisions.
  4. 4

    "The Axe Murderer" Wanderlei Silva
    Wanderlei Silva
    "The Axe Murderer"
    35-14-1, 1 NC
Ok, now it gets weird. Wanderlei was a great fighter in Pride, but he lost twice to Dan Henderson. He had a few losses to guys like Cro Cop and Hunt, but they were Heavyweights, and Wandy was a pretty small Light Heavy. However he has wins over greats such as Sakuraba and two finishes over Rampage. His losses to Dan Henderson make him very hard to rank, but for a while he was the best, and I think he deserves this spot.
  5. 5

    Antônio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira
    Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira
    "Minotauro"
    34-10-1, 1 NC
Say what you want about me being biased, but Nogueira deserves this spot. For a long time in Pride he was the best. The only man to hold both Pride and UFC Heavyweight titles. Nogueira has submission wins over Mark Coleman, Semmy Schilt, Dan Henderson, Mirko Cro Cop and more. Before he came to the UFC, he had avenged all of his losses except to ranked #1 Fedor.
  6. 6

    Dan "Hendo" Henderson
    Dan Henderson
    "Hendo"
    32-15-0
Greatest American Mixed Martial Artist of all time.
  7. 7

    Randy "The Natural" Couture
    Randy Couture
    "The Natural"
    19-11-0
Another tough guy to rank. Randy has a record that at first glance is somewhat unimpressive, at 19-10. However, if you look at the competition he's fought, he is rarely in an easy fight. He lost to Liddell 2/3 times that they fought, but he was a champion in two divisions, and has wins possibly better competition, and is still fighting. Couture is definitely an all time great.
  8. 8

    "El Guapo" Bas Rutten
    Bas Rutten
    "El Guapo"
    28-4-1
Rutten is another tough person to rank. He hasn't fought the best competition of all the people on this list, but he did go out on a 22 fight win streak, the longest win streak in MMA history, so he gets the spot at 7.
  9. 9

    Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipović
    Mirko Filipović
    "Cro Cop"
    38-11-2, 1 NC
Cro Cop beat some of the best MMA fighters in the world with his signature left high kick. One of the top HW's of all time.
  10. 10

    Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell
    Chuck Liddell
    "The Iceman"
    21-9-0
Liddell had a big run as UFC champion, with many big wins. He had a great career, and sadly had to finish it on the wrong end of tons of highlight reels.
  11. 11+

  12. 11

    "The Prodigy" BJ Penn
    BJ Penn
    "The Prodigy"  |  16-14-2
If Penn was more focused, I think he could be top 5 on this list.
