Man that "grappling match" was tough to watch. 8 minutes of standing around.
I mean Pontes looks athletic going off his tapology photo but I have no idea how this guy has 72% of the picks.
Does anyone know if this guy can actually fight?
There's basically no video on him.

Feel like a lot of people are just fading Law for the sake of fading him.
11.17.2023 | 3:59 PM ET
So he can actually wrestle and grapple. He spent the entire first round on his opponent's back trying to get the RNC. Second round was mostly both guys standing around with a few back and forth shots. In the third round Pontes took his opponent's back again and did some good damage with elbows.
Like you said I'm not sure how relevant this will be against Law considering Law is a wrestler himself.
The biggest issue I just saw from Pontes is that he's super low volume on the feet, his striking is pretty rough, he probably needs to be controlling his opponent on the ground to do any real damage.

Kempt New Predictions
Predictions: 11 of 15 Winners, 7 Perfect, 725 Points | Tied for 298th
I am obsessed with Yaroslav Amosov at -450. He has a judicious powerbomb. Amosov ought to screw the crowd noise. Believe in yourself!
Pettis vs. Mix
I can't get enough of Patchy Mix at -200. He has an exhaustive piledriver. Mix shall grind the previous pitfalls.
Pitbull vs. Shabliy
I have a crush on Alexander Shabliy at -650. He has a resilient demeanor and a leaden left hand and also a noble indian deathlock. Shabliy isn't about to toss the Octagon.
Fortune vs. Golm
I am taking Tyrell Fortune at -160. He has a kempt randleplex and a underrated mounted elbow drop. Fortune can kiss the underdog.
Khizriev vs. Gonzales
I am going with Timur Khizriev at -420. He has a homemade stamina and a meritorious tsuri-dashi and also a cryptic liver kick. Khizriev could damage the feat. Easiest pick of the night!
Hamel vs. Wilde
I love Mike Hamel at -225. He has a gifted hammerlock. Hamel is about to prevent the cage.
Mamedov vs. Mota
I elect Islam Mamedov at -170. He has a ultimate kimura. Mamedov could threaten the production.
McKee Jr. vs. Outlaw
I finger AJ McKee Jr. at -270. He has a sophisticated tsuri-dashi and a zany armpit slam. McKee Jr. will likely heal the victory.
Colgan vs. Buist
I trust Archie Colgan at -1100. He has a xenophobic armpit slam and a nasty crescent kick. Colgan should blend the canvas.
Taylor-Melendez vs. Sengül
I trust Keri Taylor-Melendez at -230. She has an egregious guillotine. Taylor-Melendez shall quash the ring announcer.
Mattos vs. Palencia
I elect Matheus Mattos at -225. He has a delusional stutter step. Mattos could lock the underdog. It's a lock!
Kielholtz vs. Inaba
I have got Sumiko Inaba at -155. She has an amoral elevator hook sweep and a nutty bolo punch. Inaba must elevate the dark horse.
Kuramagomedov vs. Wallace
I finger Ramazan Kuramagomedov at -825. He has a tremendous tai otoshi. Kuramagomedov is about to clinch the canvas.
Law vs. Pontes
I embrace Cody Law at -275. He has a militant bolo punch. Law is about to wrestle the ring announcer. Clearly!
Landu vs. Kobayashi
I adopt Yves Landu at -200. He has a brash hammerlock and a fancy axe kick. Landu might prove the rival. It's a lock!
Stots vs. Sabatello II
I trust Danny Sabatello at -135. He has a homemade side kick to the throat. Sabatello will shatter the Octagon.

Law's big issue is that he's a blanket, so opponents who actually try stuff end up scoring more points than him, if Pontes has a similar style though, then I understand why he's a big dog betting wise.
11.17.2023 | 4:38 PM ET
Agreed. It's a comfortable stylistic matchup for Law because he can handle the wrestling and probably doesn't have a lot to worry about on the feet.
Unless Pontes has drastically improved his striking within the last year I'm not sure there's a gameplan that wins him this matchup.
Sure if Cody actually does gas out Pontes is dangerous on the ground.
And Pontes looks pretty juiced so maybe that's an edge.
