You think Volk is the second best all time? Or second p4p behind Jones?

With all the drama before this card, Rodtang & Haggarty pulling out due to "illness", all the weight misses and bizarre way Moraes just somehow made weight and hydration on his second attempt after failing both I really thought ONE had blew their debut to the larger Amazon audience but this card was strength after strength. One of the best cards this year and ONE continues to have great success putting Muay Thai between MMA bouts.  Something more MMA promotions that can't afford depth to their roster(I'm looking at you Bellator) need to really consider.

if DJ were 6ft tall and lightweight he would be an absolute GOAT for everyone. DJ swept his weight class, with no reach or height advantage, no big weight cuts, and especially no positive drug test. The only ones capable of doing the same milestone were Fedor at Pride FC and Frankie Edgar at lightweight. Mighty Mouse always had to go against the odds (and I don't mean matchups: I mean against his boss and having almost no sponsors) that's why he's the best.

Yeah but they never sought proper talent so you had weird matches like Varga vs some boxing journeyman who takes dives monthly. It was a complete flop because they went for low level kickboxers and sought quanity instead of actual talent

it is my who I think it the best fighter of all time. I don’t  think Jones can be on a pound 4 pound list because he’s retired and hasn’t been Jon Jones because he old, so Volk is number 1 on my pound 4 pound,

Also, if DJ was 6 foot 3 and at heavyweight he wouldn’t be DJ, comparing flyweight to heavyweight is like comparing apples to oranges,

I know DJ did damage and applied pressure in the fight, but I still find it kinda funny that Moraes was gassing by the 3rd round. Is it possible that he might've had a rough weight cut? Like I honestly don't care about ONE's hydration tests, no weight cutting blah blah blah, I think it's obvious this guy was cutting weight for this fight lol

I agree, the in-fight is very different depending on the weight class. What I mean is that many people disqualify DJ from the GOAT discussion due to his weight class, height and not being as popular compared to other fighters who have a similar status among the biggest in the sport.

I watched in the morning so didn't join in on discussion.

About Moraes vs DJ weight/size difference

  • ONE's weight class difference was only implemented in 2018, Moraes has been flyweight champ on and off since 2014, weighing in at . Although he clearly has a much bigger frame now
  • Moraes is definitely big for a flyweight but DJ is also very small for a modern flyweight. Moreno is 5'7 Morares is 5'8 whilst DJ is 5'3
  • I've heard that DJ used to weigh in at fight night in the UFC at around 140 anyways
  • Lastly, there is a mens strawweight division in one at 125lbs. If DJ thought he could still make 125 hydrated he could have moved down.

DJ wouldn’t be a six foot tall lightweight, he’d be a 5”7 one. He’s one of the shortest fighters in history, if he were at lightweight he’d definitely have a shorter stockier build like an Arman Tsarukyan. Regardless Jones is NOT the goat. He’s 26-1 and that one loss is to Dominick Reyes. Plus he’s a steroid head junkie PED abuser who couldn’t convincingly beat a 1 legged middleweight and LOST to a guy who would lose his next 2 fights.

I think skill is obviously more prevalent in the lower weight classes, but tbh I think once you get to a certain point it stops mattering. Like once you get past welterweight I think a majority of the fighters become really skilled. Sure flyweight is the smallest weight class, they have the least power and physical attributes so skill is present in almost every fighter, but tbh the most skilled flyweight and the most skilled bantamweight or lightweight (and maybe featherweight) all pretty much equal to me. Like is there anything DJ can do that Yan, Volkanovski, or Gamrot/Fiziev can’t do? He’s faster but also less powerful, that’s literally it. And it’s not like every single person at flyweight is a master of martial arts, there’s a bunch that really aren’t that technical or good just like in other weight classes.

In the higher weight classes there’s only a few people with actual master tier skills. Jones, Silva, GSP, etc (and even then they’re arguably less skilled than DJ or Yan, but that’s debatable for some of them). Once you get to lightweight I feel like there’s a huge amount of people with those skills. Sure flyweight has more of them, but it’s not like 90% of flyweights have god tier skills and only 10% of featherweights do. The disparity between them isnt nearly that large as it is with the big boys all the way down to welterweights, and like I said: When it comes to actual skill I feel they’re pretty even. It’s just that there’s more of those people in the smallest weight classes. But it’s not like being tiny automatically makes you one of the greatest fighters ever. If Guram were shrunk down he’d smash ranked people like Tim Elliot

That was actually a really cool clip of Cejudo supporting DJ, even calling him the GOAT. The least cringe I’ve ever seen him on camera.

Demetrious Johnson is easily the top P4P fighter of all time in my opinion. Dude never used PED’s nor did he use his size disadvantage as an excuse.

John Jones has the most title wins 14 (busted for PED’s) **don’t get me wrong John Jones is the goat and I love him but he did use PED’s**
2nd most is GSP at 13
3rd is DJ at 12

I fully believe that if DJ was still in the UFC he would’ve easily surpassed 14 title fight wins, the knee while grounded loss would’ve never happened, and he’d be on top for a couple more years

Why is DJ's record vastly different depending on what website you look at? On Tap he is 24-4 and Sherdog and Wikipedia got him at 31-4. We're some of his amateur fights considered pro?
