I know he's won it back since but he did get TKO'd by Alex Pereira since being on the cover so it depends if you count winning the rematch as un-doing the curse or not.

Honest Question

Is it good for MMA in the long run to have faces and heels like pro wrestling, or should every fighter at least attempt to "work face" like athletes in the NFL or MLB? I get the importance of self-promotion. McGregor has made millions working heel, and Covington has obviously found that working MAGA heel pays off better than being a stoic former NCAA guy with great cardio, but is that model sustainable? 

Would the sport really be boring if everyone acted like Volk did last Saturday?

I think it's good because it gets people emotionally invested, and thus makes the fights more memorable years down the line. In the long run, we will remember the fights that made us feel the most, whether it was elation, awe, or disappointment.

I think one of the best things about MMA is that the sport allows fighters to be authentic. If everyone tries to be straight laced and respectful some people will fail and just be boring. If everyone tries to be edgy or a heel some people will just be cringe and annoying (cc Aljo and Belal).
