Shogun is a better technical striker than Jones, Jones just has the better physical assets.
How can someone discredit Machida for doing a wicked kick? Directed @Leo, yet everyone is all over Jones flashy strikes? Im leaning towards Jones to win but dont count Lyoto out.

@bassist, did you see GSP vs Serra? I guess Serra's a better striker than St. Pierre.

Hell, did you see Shogun/Forrest 1? Shogun was coming off the same injuries and surgeries before that fight, and he got outstruck and out grappled. When they had a rematch and Shogun was healthy, he destroyed him in a matter of minutes.

@bas.. Most of the fight Shogun was on his back. If it was just a striking match, shogun probably would have one even when he was that rusty. And why would you say @mino is sucking on Shogun's nuts when you are "sucking" on Jones' nuts just as much.

Shogun would still get outgrappled by Forrest.

And GSP avenged his loss to Serra. I'm not sure how EITHER of those are at all relevant to the discussion.

My intent is not to sound like an ass hole, or an internet tough guy....I really just don't get why people pick against him. I hope it is not because they do not like him. The guy may be a little too humble and respectful at times.....which makes me cringe because that makes him seem fake, BUT he is trying!!!! If the guy came out and acted like a moron, people would hate that too. Damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess. Back to the point. Bones has beat the breaks off everyone he has fought. He has not even as much as lost a round as far as I am concerned. The guy is special....don't let anything cloud the fact that we are witnessing something special. Don't hate on his success......like it or not, he is the Micheal Jordan of MMA and we will have to get used to watching him win....because he will be doing a lot of it. I would like to see him get out of 205 though because he has fought the best the division has to offer and until Rampage....everyone said he was, "yet to be tested". Starting to think Chael Sonnen was right saying its the weakest division in the UFC....ironically, holding the best fighter the sport has seen. Go figure.n

@Bassist, im surprised you got within Jones 10.5'' reach advantage to constantly suck his nuts. What mino said is completely relevant. Shogun tapped from strikes once, you're labeling him as a worse striker than Jones based on that. Serra and GSP have both beaten each other, so would you like me to believe theyre just as good?

Ok, when you say Shogun would get outgrappled by Forrest, I'm going to back away from this discussion, haha.

Russello and Bassist got their nut-sucking comments in.

Further nut-suck suggestions will get removed from the thread. There's only so much alleged nut sucking that I can handle.

Can't wait to see this one!  I mean honestly, I don't think we've truly seen yet if Jones can take a punch just because Rampage got a couple of swipes at him.  Lyoto has the accuracy and the deceptiveness to get inside and tag Jones and I think if he can land solid counter-punches he can get Jones weak and tko him.

I agree that Jones seems to be on a whole different level from most of the other competitors out there, but it seems like it just becomes too easy and comfortable to pick the champ every time.  Machida used to be in the same position Jones is in now, with people talking about the Machida era, saying that he may be unbeatable at that particular point in his career.  Even their styles are pretty similar.  I think that Jones does leave the occasional opening, and like any other human being he is beatable.  The right shot put in the right place at the right time will equal Jones losing his belt.  It's unlikely, and the safer bet is Jones, but Machida is definitely a capable candidate in finding the right place and time for his shots.

@Lawman Good points, it seems whenever someone becomes champion and defends there belt once, all of the sudden they are the next greatest ever.  So naturally people will go with the champion :P

btw I love your quote!

Very solid points RW. Lyoto will truly be Jones biggest test in my opinion. I just can't wait to watch the magic in the cage. No matter who wins it'll truly be privilege to see such talent displayed in the Octagon, and to see two fighters sort of similar fight for us. This is the fight I've always wanted Machida in win or lose. Just to see how it unfolds.
I don't care about super fights. This is my super fight. It's a fight I've always wanted to see.

Nothing's crazy when it comes to MMA. I just think a lot of people are counting out Machida. Nice to see some support.
