Thompson has much more experience (counting his 57-0 kickboxing record) and discipline. Wonderboy via.spectacular karate kick.

Even when judges arrive at the right result, they have the wrong grading.

IDK how the rematch will go. Woodley impressed and surprised me. He seemed to do more damage and be a lot closer to finishing but then if Thompson had defended better he might have outpointed Woodley comfortably.

I didn't think any of the rounds were 10-8. I had it rounds 2,3,5 for Wonderboy. However I can't be too upset about any of the scores. Rounds 2 and 3 were pretty close. Round 3 might of been a toss up.

Wonderboy can be a frustrating fighter to watch because as a spectator you just want him to increase his output and do something spectacular, especially when Woodley was just waiting on Thompson with his back to the fence.

I thought Thompson could of stopped Woodley in the 5th, considering Woodley could hardly moves his arms in the fifth. He might of been tired and dazed too, but it seemed like if Wonderboy could of setup his wheel kick he could of caught Woodley.

@unbenknownst

Eh I don't see that.  Round 4 was a pretty clear 10-8 to Woodley for me.  He absolutely smashed Wonderboy and dropped him 3 times and honestly I could see an argument for a 10-7 for T-Wood.

I still have it 3-2 for Wonderboy.  But a draw was the right call.

I have a lot of respect back for Woodley after that fight.  He showed that he wasn't a fluke champ.  I still hope he doesn't start ducking contenders and defends against Maia next (who deserves a shot before Wonderboy gets the rematch).  But I have to tip my cap to Woodley for what he did.  He looked very good.

@GreenHornet: It was an incredibly dominate round for Woodley at times. However Woderboy finished on top reigning down some heavy shots. For me, he saved that round from being a 10-8 at the last moment. What I like about MMA scoring, unlike boxing, you can save a round. You might still lose the round but you can turn a 10-8 into 10-9 round depending on your own output regardless of the adversity you faced.

Round 1: Woodley
Round 2: Wonderboy
Round 3: Wonderboy
Round 4: Woodley (10-9 or 10-8)
Round 5: Wonderboy

I thought Wonderboy did enough to win the 3 rounds and no 10-8 round, but I think the draw was at least fair because of how to score the 4th round. I personally thought it was a back and forth 10-9.

back and forth, 4th round?  Woodely almost finished Wonderboy with strikes and almost finished him with a submission, that was a clear 10-8 round and I dont even like woodley at all.  People need to go rewatch the end of that round, Wonder boy shots at the end barely even landed, Woodely completely block them with his arm. Don't see how on earth a few shots that dont even land nor do any damage at the very end of the round makes up for almost being finished 2 or 3 times that round.  Think, some people got some serous goggles on for Wonder boy.

Well yeah, Wonderboy was winning the round up until he started getting blasted. Perhaps back and forth was the wrong phrase, but if he has control of a few minutes I'd say it's hard to score a 10-8 after that but like I said I don't blame people for going either way.

I don't think that has anything to do with it. You can get caught by Woodley's explosiveness whether your hands are up or down.

What bugs me is that barring the TD (which came off a Wonderboy mistake, not a Woodley setup) and getting caught once, Woodley looked so lost and outclassed. A lot like he did against Rory, the difference being that Rory took less risks so he didn't get clipped.

Woodley didn't look like a champ not the better fighter in the cage (even though I think he deservedly retained his belt).

I don't think he was ****y at all ... that's his style, it's imprinted in him, that's how he disguised and gets the speed and pop he needs in order for his fighting style to be effective.

What's supposed to protect his head within that style is the distance and movement, not the hands.

It's a style that has its pros and has its cons, but in Wonderboy's case I think I can confidently say it didn't come from being ****y. In fact, given what he said post-fight I think he was quite the opposite, he said he didn't open up enough because he was too respectful of Woodley's power.

You may think it's different or even argue that it's not a good style for the top level (I'd disagree with you, but the argument holds merit), but I think you're off the mark with him being ****y.

Yes, it is his style as he is ****y. Don't get me wrong, I wanted him too win. I just think he could have been a bit more cautious.

@yossgold i agree on your point. Wonderboy is far away from being a ****y fighter. I can understand ppl may think that because of his stance but it's just the specificity of Wonderboy game. (Anderson Silva was clearly ****y but not Wonderboy).

You can't throw attack and especially kicks and spining attacks like he used to if you keep your hands super high and stay stiff. It's part of the game, give him many opportunitues offensively but also some holes defensively. BTW i hope he will completely let it go for the rematch because this is where he become really nasty
