This really is the perfect situation to bring in Askren to fight a top guy like Condit.

I hope they do it.

Dana apparently doesn't like Askren, he thinks his style is boring and he's the former Bellator welterweight champ.

If the UFC signs Askren there is no way he's getting an immediate title shot since if he wins it makes Bellator look stronger than the UFC which is a big marketing mistake.

If the UFC signs Askren they'll make his fight a lower ranked welterweight with a style taylor made to beat Askren just to make him look weak and so Dana can go on rambling about how the comp. Askren fought in Bellator was much easier.

I wasn't sure if the ONEFC signing was official.  Who else could Dana be talking to about a fight with condit for a #1 contender status?

I'm surprised at the lack of discussion about GSP leaving in of itself. This is massive and not in a good way. He is by the far the most popular UFC (and MMA) fighter. And he is also one of the last vestiges of the UFC from the old keepers of titles (GSP/Liddell/Silva/Penn/Coututre).

Although he is Canadian, I haven't always supported GSP, but I still believe he is a true ambassador for the sport on top of his accolades.

I still think he is the undisputed champ, and no matter how close that hendricks fight was, there is no other fighter like GSP (not in the sense of style, but his all-around abilities and use of traditional martial arts).

Rest up, Georges. The belt will be waiting for you, nice and warm.

Even if GSP never returns, he is still the greatest WW ever and arguably the greatest fighter ever. I expect a mounumental @Bill Burgess GSP appreciation thread no later than 9:00 PM EST tonight so there's nothing more for me to add other than I wish GSP a happy life post-fighting.

We kinda knew GSP would be stepping away after his post fight comments. Now it's just official. And GSP will always be considered one of the all time greats. He has so many records and accomplishments that he'll never be forgotten, even if he never returns to the octagon.

he is the greatest WW for now, but i think this hurts his legacy as a P4P fighter.

the good part is hendricks gets to get the belt he deserves and then we can watch hendricks vs condit for the title. this division is way more exciting to me now.

GSP is:
-  25-2
-  Most UFC wins with 19
-  Tied for most consecutive title defences at 9
-  3rd degree black belt in Karate, black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu,
-  Has won 4 fight of the night, 1 knockout of the night and 1 submission of the night
-  Has sold the most PPV's all-time and averages the highest amount of PPV sold per fight on average
-  arguably cleaned out his division twice, with wins over; Penn x2, Hughes x2, Condit, Alves, Shields, Diaz, Fitch, Koscheck, Sherk and Hendricks

And you're saying he is the greatest WW for .. 'now'? It's going to take YEARS for someone to amount to the success and overall accolades he has. When I say YEARS, just to achieve what he has done, who knows when we'll even see a fighter as dominate as he was.

"-  Tied for most consecutive title defences at 9"

Anderson Silva has 10 consecutive title defenses.

That said, I agree that with the way the sport is developing I doubt we're going to have any more 10-time champs under 205 ... GSP will be forever the greatest WW, imo.

I'm a little upset because I really don't like immediate rematches unless there is a really good reason (like Machida v Shogun) and I thought this was one of the few times there should have been an immediate rematch and now Hendricks won't get a chance to avenge the loss. I think there's some disrespect there but other than that, if he needs time off it's understandable.

I really don't think Nick Diaz should be considered for a title shot anytime soon. I think he's overrated. The only person he's beaten of note since 2007 is BJ Penn who's wasn't exactly in his prime, and not at his best weight class. But I really like watching him fight he makes it very interesting.

@jerry, don't worry about Hendricks, he's stated a number of times he doesn't care against who, all he wants is the belt, I think he'll be ok with the fact that he knows in his heart and most people believe that he did beat GSP and won't be splitting hairs over not avenging the loss.

I'm pretty sure he wants to start a reign of his own as champ much more than to prove his worth vs. GSP since in his eyes he's already done that. He's got bigger things to worry about now.

Hendricks is a sav. That's part of the reason he's gotten this far. He clearly wants it more than anyone else. Apparent at UFC 167 and apparent throughout his career.
