I dont understand this choice.

Why on Earth the UFC would choose Edgar and Penn as the season 19 TUF coaches is beyond me. First off Penn was one of the worst ever TUF coaches the show has ever had. Secondly, a rematch between Penn & Edgar makes no sense at all. Im my opinion, they shouldve had Urijah Faber going up against Frankie.

Chad Mendes vs Frankie would of been a better fight but ppl love Bj so maybe they chose him for ratings although i see no way he beats Frankie in the fight hes just to slow compared to Edgar

Or Faber/Penn.

Faber said he would be willing to go back to 145 for big fights.

This is some crazy ****, a top 5 FW fights an unranked fighter in his FW debut who has lost to his opponent twice in another division and is 1-4-1 in his last 6 fights. Some how I am still interested, imagining in my head some sort of rejuvenated BJ who looks like a specimen and fights like a prodigy going out there running through Frankie like Aldo couldn't and getting the belt but...I know that's just wishful thinking.

Frankie's a top 5 featherweight? I personally disagree.

The TUF coach choices are getting less and less rankings and reality based and more and more for some sort of immediate "wow factor" (Bisping/Mayhem, Chael/Jones). Problem is, only the hard-cores watch TUF and they're not easily impressed by names, they need realistically relevant matchups to get their juices going.

I personally agree ... with you, that is ;)

I have Lamas, Chad, Cub, Poirier and Zombie above him @ FW.

Same, he's 7th on my list as well behind those you mentioned and Aldo. That's also where he sits on the consensus rankings of Tapology. He needs a win against someone other than do bronx @ 145 to justify top 5 for me.

I'm just going by the UFC's rankings for the sake of argument guys.

I was really surprised when Penn accepted Rory MacDonald.  That didn't make a lot of sense to me.  But this?  I'm just confused.  BJ at 145?  I'll believe it when I see it.  I just don't believe he can make that weight.

And for what?  To fight a man who beat him twice?  I'm glad BJ isn't retiring, but he really needs to rethink his opponents.  BJ should have held out for Henderson.  That would have been a better fight.

Faber vs. Edgar would be a great fight.

BJ Penn hates GSP, it makes perfect sense that he wanted to fight the protege of his greatest enemy.

@Nomad The UFC rankings are rippin someone off lol.

Penn will fight anyone. Which is why he will always be one of my favorite fighters. Will he lose this fight? Probably. But the fact that he's going to 145 still excites me. Maybe he'll get his **** together now.

I love the fact that BJ will fight anyone, but he really needs to think about this particular one.  I will not believe he can make 145 unless he proves it and actually does it.

To make 145, he will have to be very motivated and that remains to be seen.  But I'm just not that interested in Penn vs. Edgar 3.

There are too many others I'd rather see BJ fight.  Henderson, Maynard, Healy, Grant.

Why go so far down for a man that is known for speed?  If he loses this one, and that's an excellent possibility, what will that do for his career?  It would be a sad embarrassment from which he would never get over.  Is that what he really subconsciously requires to get over MMA?  I am just so confused and disappointed.

I don't care if BJ Penn is at his most motivated moment of his entire life, he could wear a ******* helmet and knee pads and still get his **** tossed by Frankie Edgar.

Edgar will dismantle BJ.

Frankie vs Urijah was the UFC's initial choice but apparently Frankie didn't want to fight 135 and Faber didn't want to fight 145 so they agreed to 140 but dana said he hates Catchweight fights, then BJ Penn texted him saying the he can run through Frankie and that he never even showed up in their first 2 fights that he wants the Frankie fight super bad, then he's getting a belt. Signed a multiple fight contract, dana is either convinced or money hungry because Faber vs Frankie made a lot more sense than this.

So we know these 2 are fighting and that Mendes will fight on the UFC on FOX 9 card, but who does he fight against? The 2 most obvious choices are Lamas or Swanson. It all depends on when Aldo comes back.

I just spoke to @FrankieEdgar. He said this time he is going to finish BJ. He will never want to fight again @ufc

LOL. Frankie is not even close to the top 3 guys I would expect to be able to finish BJ at FW.
