Machida will catch him with a punch just like Bader.

I'm pretty torn on this. If Davis gets him down, we know how it's going to play out. But if Davis is forced to stand, we also know how it's going to play out. This one is much more of a toss up than the prediction thing would indicate

Machida has some of the best Takedown Defense in the sport. So whether or not Davis can get him down is a big 'If'. He is also quite good at getting up on the small chance he is taken down. Tough fight for Phil Davis for sure. It's good to see him get the type of recognition that allows him to be in the same cage as a guy like Machida though. This will look eerily similar to Bader/Machida.

 

 

Davis' wrestling is much better than Bader's IMO. Henderson was able to take Machida down pretty easily once he actual started going for takedowns. Davis has to be one of the best pure wrestlers in MMA.

That being said, this is a tough to pick. Davis' wrestling vs Machida's striking. Davis hasn't really been rocked, but then again, he hasn't faced anyone on Machida's striking level.

Yep. Machida dances. Machida is boring because when he fought Dan Henderson he fought ... like he always does. You know, it's his fault that Dan Henderson stood there like an idiot for 15 minutes throwing leg kicks that wouldn't hurt a 90 year old while holding his right hand up to his chin. How much more one-dimensional can you get?! Machida is up on the scorecards, fighting HIS fight .. but he's supposed to be aggressive? Yep. That's how people see it. Even Henderson *****ed after the fight.. Like he had any grounds to. You'd think a veteran like that would know that when YOU are clearly losing the fight on points, it is YOUR job to be the aggressor. Machida fought his fight and did damn good doing it. People need to stop *****ing about it. 

 "He ran the whole fight!!" is what a lot of people say. 

 Is that not how Machida always fights? He moves, but if you try to be the aggressor against him, chances are you're getting knocked on your ass. That is what makes him awesome.

Machida has 6 decisions and 4 finishes in his UFC career.  Not a bad ratio if you consider he has been fighting inside the top 5 since 2008ish.  You could argue Randy wasn't top 5 when they fought, but Randy would have got a title shot had he won. 

It's not a problem with Lyoto being an exciting fighter as much as it is his opponents aren't able to get the proper angles necessary to strike with Machida due to his elusive footwork and if they decide to rush in wildly  they get finished. Machida's style is so wonderfully based off hid timing that Davis will immediately be countered when he pumps out his jab as he did during the Magalhaes fight.  Machida by decision or Knockout round 3

Machida should easily take this. Machida, destroyer of wrestlers.

Phil doesn't really have a lot of punching power, so i can't see him charging at Machida like Bader did. I see Lyoto stuffing takedowns and outpointing a much lesser striker in Davis here...Machida by UD.

I see it playing out like this as well. Hopefully Phil can bring some better strinking to the octagon for his biggest test to date.

This fight plays right into Lyotas style as much as i dislike him and i do think the guy is extremely boring but he might be the best counter striker to ever compete in the sport 

Phil would be able to compete with Lyoto but as seen in Lyoto's fight with Rich Franklin when his opponent just pumps out the jab with no purpose( Just like his last fight with Magalhaes) Lyoto is brutally efficient with countering with his right straight.
