Prediction: wrong Monson   wrong Submission   wrong Round 2

You would think that Jeff Monson is on the downhill slide of his career, but he is currently riding an 8-fight win streak. Which is one fight more than his opponent's career. Cormier has shown that he has punching power, but he hasn't faced an experienced world class opponent like Jeff Monson either. This could either be Cormier's coming out party, or Jeff Monson's resurgence into MMA's HW ranks. I'm going with Monson winning by submission in the 2nd round.

I really don't see Cormier losing to any heavyweights outside of the top guys. He's too good, and getting better.

I've always seen Cormier as one of MMA's biggest prospects, especially at HW. It seems you all disagree with me (for the most part).

@minotauro - I'm not disagreeing with you completely. Like I said, it's either going to be Cormier's coming out party or Monson's resrugence into the HW ranks. I'm just simply going with the experience factor on this one.

Prediction: correct Cormier   correct Decision

Cormier has olympic level wrestling and he's training at one of the best camps in the US. His potential is incredible. In his last fight Cormier showed he can do what many other top level pure wrestlers can't do, and that's mixing the striking with his wrestling, which is the most importing thing a wrestler can do in MMA, in my opinion. All of the best wrestlers (Fitch, GSP, Velasquez) all set up their takedowns with strikes, it's the fluency between the two that make the wrestling so dangerous.

Mark Munoz and Joe Warren are two great pure wrestlers. Both haven't found too much success with their MMA wrestling (Munoz looked impotent against Okami, and Warren couldn't takedown Soto or Galvao), and I think that's because it's too predictable. If your opponent is purely defending the shoot they will stuff the takedown for the most part. What Cormier does (along with Fitch, GSP, etc) is he throws combinations, which puts his opponents on the defensive, then he changes levels and gets the takedown. I think as far as MMA wrestling goes, nothing is as important is that.

Not only that, but Cormier shows solid all around improvement every time he fights. His boxing needs some work, but it gets better and better. I truly think Cormier is the best prospect in the division.

I have monson down for a decision but i hope he gets cormier in what i call the clock choke. you grab the neck and then you keep turning in an old time clock direction. i forget the real name? he did it to some guy in the UFC many years ago. it was the first time i saw anybody do that. the fighter went completely unconcious
