Is Strikeforce finally closing?  May we see a link, please?

That would be big news.  Would free up Gilbert Melendez, Josh 'Punk' Thomson, Josh Barnett, KJ Noons, Luke Rockhold, Nate Marquardt, Tyron Woodley, Keith Jardine, etc.

Vultures have been flying lazy circles high above its rotting carcass for a long time.  Everyone assumed that its Showtime contract was the only thing keeping them on life support.  Is Showtime pulling out?

From Middleeasy's Sunday Morning Rumor Mill:

This shouldn't be surprising, but Gegard Mousasi is in talks with the UFC but only under the condition that he drops to 185 lbs to 'fill out' the middleweight division.

Gegard at MW would be an instant contender but he has claimed that he wont fight at MW anymore. He would still be a great LHW but I think he would lose against the larger wrestlers

I doubt Gegard fights at MW. He said the weigh cut takes a toll on him.

War Mousasi, hope he goes down when he fights in the UFC. He'd be a very solid 185er for sure.

For any organization to pressure anyone to fight at a lower weight than they themselves feel comfortable at is despicable.  An organization should be doing the exact opposite.  The UFC should encourage Gegard to stay at LHW and come on over.

Gegard has admitted that he would move down to middleweight if he felt it was a good idea. Mousasi has stated before he has been lazy with training and relies on his natural talent for MMA a little too much, which is part of the reason his wrestling has looked meh.

Here is a snippet of a recent Mousasi interview:
He said his camp is in negotiations with the UFC, so expect to see him fighting in the Octagon.

“UFC is the biggest organization, so everyone’s goal is to be in the UFC,” Mousasi said. “The best thing is for me to go to the UFC as soon as possible. The UFC is the biggest and, if you can make your name there, that is the goal.”

When and if he gets there he said he plans to fight as a light heavyweight and would like to battle Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

“That would be a good fight,” Mousasi said. “That would be an exciting fight. He’s the kind of guy who likes to fight. I like to fight guys like him who come to fight instead of fight(ing) to win.”

If he loses, however, Mousasi said he would drop down to 185 pounds and fight as a middleweight, a weight class he believes he could dominate in.

I can't believe he is only 27. He could defiantly make a splash in the middleweight division. I think he would be the favorite over all but 3-4 UFC middleweights. I don't know if he would crack the top five light heavyweights but he would be close. Any wrestlers like Bader would UD him though.

Gegard is a top 5 MW on the planet, no doubt. If he gets into the UFC...you know who'll go bat**** first.

@Anik

I want to believe that. I really like Mousasi. He has some really impressive performances... and than at times he had some that are lackluster.

I hope he's worked on his takedown defense.

Without TDD you can't be a top 5 MW in the UFC. If he fixes that, then well see for sure. I like Mousasi a lot.

MW isn't a wrestling heavy division, Mousasi could outstrike guys like Rockhold, Belcher, Stann, Bisping, Vitor, etc.

He would end Poison Dwarf's life.

The UFC is the only real proving ground in MMA, if you have a weakness, it will be found.  If Jardine could take Mousasi down, then a lot of people can.

Not only was Jardine a lot bigger than Mousasi, but look at what happened when he wasn't taking down Gegard...

Mousasi would outstrike anyone not named Anderson Silva in the MW division. Wrestling wise it's kind of a crapshoot. Ground game wise, Mousasi would give a lot of guys trouble on the ground as well.
