Since Friday morning, amateur MMA is illegal in the Province of Quebec.
I don’t have all the details yet, but apparently it’s a decision made by the new government.

I heard the FQBM (Quebec Amateur MMA Federation) will work very hard during the next few days to change that and they are confident it’ll take only a few weeks/months before amateur MMA is legal again.

Until then… no more (legal and sanctioned) amateur MMA events in the Province of Quebec.

Very bad news for the sport…

I think the plan is to keep people as confused as possible, lol.

It's legal again!

The Quebec Amateur MMA Federation changed 3 rules and now amateur MMA is legal.
1. Gloves will be smaller (about time!)
2. Blood test every year (ABOUT TIME!!!)
3. Fighters under 18 years old and the opponent will wear a helmet.

Pro MMA is perfectly legal, unless it's in the Bellator cage. And unless you're Ringside MMA... In that case you won't have a liscence.

Other weird facts about Quebec pro MMA:
- Eric Okeefe, Tristar assistant coach can't corner a fighter in Quebec. He's always cornering UFC and Bellator fighters all around the world though.
- Usually there's HW (206-265) and SHW (266+), here it's only 206+
- Footstomps are illegal. If UFC fighters try to do it at UFC 154 they will lose a point.

2 questions?

1. Why is Bellator illegal in Quebec?

2. What is the reason for Eric Okeefe not being able to corner a fighter? Is he on the governing body for QAMMA?

1. The cage they're using isn't legal. That's what you get when rules are made by boxing people who don't care about MMA.

2. Mystery! Big conflic between him and the athletic commission, not sure why...
They shut down Ringside right when he got involved with the promotion too.

The smaller gloves will allow better grappling, yes?

@cal1
Yes, I think so. I'll ask fighters about it after the first event using these new gloves.

@gunn4206
I thought fighters were already asked to take blood tests too. I mean it's only common sens. There's blood in MMA sometimes...

@AnikM
No.. but if they are under 18 they'll wear a helmet.
