Gary Wright Wiki

Gary "Evil Ginger" Wright was a professional MMA fighter who spent most of his short career competing in KOTC. He competed out of Toshido MMA under the guidance of David Lea. Gary relied heavily on his wrestling to take his opponents down and control them there.

He would make his MMA debut at KOTC Underground 23 where he would take Adam Thomas to a decision which Wright would unanimously win.

His next fight came against Dustin Sutley at KOTC: Anarchy. Sutley was 0-1 coming into the bout having lost his first fight via knockout at 12 seconds of the very first round. Sutley made it clear that he had something to prove telling Wright before the fight that they were both going to leave the cage with a record of 1-1. Sutley had his mom cageside watching the fight. When the fight started Sutley rushed in early throwing a leg kick and a left hook before being hit by a elbow from Wright which sent Sutley down on one knee, he got up quickly and tried to throw some hooks at Wright but they missed as Wright shot for a takedown. Wright managed to take Sutley down with ease and Sutley began to try and keep Wright from posturing up. Wright began throwing shots to the body of Sutley. Sutley managed to make his way to the cage and used it to get up but Wright kept on trying to take him back down as Sutley landed some good shots to Wrights body and head. Wright kept on pursuing the takedown which eventually lead to him returning Sutley down to the canvas but Sutley quickly made his way back up to his feet before Wright slammed him right back down again. Wright managed to posture up for a short period before Sutley reversed Wright and pushed him against the cage. Sutley lands a few good right hands. Wright continues to hang on to Sutleys leg and lifts him up, almost managing to slam him back down again. They continue wrestling around for a bit until Wright pushes Sutley up against the cage and throws some knees that miss before Sutley manages to push Wright to the canvas and hits some good right hands that appear to hurt Wright. Wright is quick to start pulling on Sutleys leg again showing that he really doesnt want to be in the current position. Sutley keeps on trying to land on Sutley but has a hard time managing to hit clean. Wright gets the takedown with less than a minute left on the clock, he manages to posture up and throws a multitude of elbows at the end of the first round which Sutley manage to mostly block. The rounds ends and both men return to their corners. As the second round kicks off Wright lands some clean shots which appear to hurt Sutley. Sutley starts to swing for the fences trying to hit Wright back but misses most of his shots. After being hit by two shots Wright shoots for a takedown and gets Sutley down to the canvas yet again. Sutley attempts to get back up but gets returned to the canvas where Wright begins to unload shots and Sutley just covers up. After 40 seconds of Wright unloading the referee finally calls an end to the contest declaring Gary Wright the winner by TKO at 2:50 of Round 2.

Following this win Gary would take a fight at Rumble in the Cage where he would beat Mike Neufeld before returning back to KOTC as he took on debuting Aaron Bruce at  KOTC: Insurrection. He would beat Bruce by Unanimous decision improving his record to 4-0. Following the win over Bruce, Gary would take a fight on the british columbia regionals where he would defeat 8-2 Myles Merola. This win over Merola would earn Wright a main event against fellow undefeated prospect Timothy Jerome Grant better known as TJ Grant at KOTC: Megiddo. Wright would defeat Grant via unanimous decision handing the future UFC fighter his first ever loss. After defeating Grant, Gary would find himself in another main event, this time in a rematch with Aaron Bruce. Bruce had managed to win 5 out of his 7 fights following his loss to Gary a year prior. This fight would prove to be no different tho as Wright would once again take Bruce to a unanimous decision handing the Canada native yet another defeat. Following his second win over Bruce, Wright would take another KOTC main event, this time against Elmer Waterhen at KOTC: Trooper. Half way through the fifth round, Wright managed to put Elmer away with punches, improving his record to 8-0.

This fight with Elmer would however prove to be the last we would ever see of Gary "Evil Ginger" Wright as he would never again fight inside the cage and seems to have disappeared from the sport all together. Gary ended his career undefeated and with a stellar win over TJ Grant on his resume. He might not be a well known fighter but he was a legit fighter who proved his ability and who fought his way through KOTC for over 3 years.
