Jean-Francois Ratelle Wiki
Training out of Kanreikai MMA in Joliette under Dominic Morin's instruction, Ratelle is recognized for his hard combative style and his willingness to take fights against overweight fighters. He will take on any fighter in order ''to gain experience''.
During his early career, people noticed his stand up style was not a problem. During his first fight at Summum 5 in 2011, he was awarded "Fight of the Night" honors. At this point, everything was going great for him and he could do anything he set his mind to but he had to work on his ground game. He was put in a tough spot many times when he took on larger fighters with a solid ground game, but he never backed off but started to pile up losses.
In 2013, he joined Team Ronin in Grants Pass, Oregon, under the instruction of David Kirk, who was a U.S. Army veteran. This school is reputed for a good wrestling program. After two weeks of preparation, Ratelle was placed into a controversial situation at Reno Ultimate Combat 45 in Reno, Nevada. He was first matched with José Medina for a 145 lbs fight, but the bout was cancelled without any prior notice. As he showed up on the scale, the promoter said he had to fight Bryan ''Juice'' Jone, a 155 lbs fighter and North-Western Muay Thai Champion. Ratelle was 144.8 without clothes. For the fight to take place, he had to hit over 145. He put his clothes back on and stepped on the scale to hit 146.6. The fight was on.
Ratelle managed to pack on another four pounds during the next 24 hours. He jumped in the cage at 150 pounds but many people estimated Jones at 165-170. During the first round, both fighters stood up until the fight went to the ground. As Jones was on a ground and pound mission to knock Ratelle out from the rear. The referee stopped the fight, thinking Ratelle was knocked out. Ratelle is extremely hard to finish and had a solid defense. People back in Québec were outraged as they saw their fighter pilling up another loss due to a bad call. After the fight, Ratelle and Jones shook hands. Jones thanked him for giving him a fight. Ratelle smiled and said ''No worries bro but I'm telling you, f***, you were so heavy!'' We had 2 gentlemen with the fighting spirit and it was great to see.
Ratelle will be in action in the near future, as he will fight to break a loss streak with an improved boxing, ground game and his dynamite packed kicks.
