Giga Chikadze Wiki

Giga Chikadze was born in Tblisi, Georgia. Georgia became an independent country when Chikadze was three years old and he has spoken of how the war and hardship in his homeland has shaped his mentality. Chikadze has a background in Goju-Ryu Karate beginning training in the style when he was 5. He would later go on to train in Kyokushin and Kickboxing and ranks as 3rd degree black belt in Goju-Ryu and blackbelt in Kyokushin. As a child, Chikadze watched several martial arts movies and UFC events on VHS and was inspired by the performance of Royce Gracie at UFC 1.

He moved to the Netherlands for around seven years in order to train in the renowned Dutch Kickboxing gyms and fight on the local and international level Kickboxing circuits, where he became a multiple-time World Champion.

After this he debuted in Glory Kickboxing going 6 - 4 in the promotion earning notable wins over Kevin VanNostrand, Serhiy Adamchuk and Victor Pinto. His professional kickboxing career ended with 38 wins and 8 losses.

Retiring from Kickboxing in 2017, Chikadze then switched his focus to MMA, making his professional debut at World Series of Fighting 26: Plamer v. Almeida. He would lose to Gil Guarardo by unanimous decision, but he hit the California regional circuit and bounced back with five straight KO/TKO victories. Giga appeared on Season 2 of Dana White's Contender Series, losing to Austin Springer by rear naked choke. Nevertheless, 2 finish victories on the regional scene earned Chikadze a UFC contract.

Chikadze made his UFC debut on September 28, 2019 at UFC Fight Night: Hermansson v. Cannonier and defeated Brandon Davis via split decision. Chikadze won his first seven UFC fights, four by decision and three consecutive Performance of the Night TKO victories over Jamey Simmons (UFC on ESPN: Santos vs. Teixeira), Cub Swanson (UFC on ESPN: Reyes vs. Procházka), and Edson Barboza (UFC on ESPN: Barboza vs. Chikadze). Chikadze faced Calvin Kattar at UFC on ESPN: Kattar vs. Chikadze on January 15, 2022. The two put on a Fight of the Night Performance, with Kattar winning a dominant unanimous decision victory.

Chikadze is proud of his Georgian heritage and strives to raise his children with the traditional Georgian. Chikadze lives with his wife and children in Southern California at trains at Kings MMA in Huntington Beach. After Chikadze's mother died of in 2013, he became passionate about helping those with financial struggles get the care that they need.
