My opinion on the 2019 Fights of the Year, and my Top 5 Favorite/Best Fights.
-
1
- Romero vs. Costa
- Paulo Costa | Decision
- 2019 | UFC 241
-
The two most intimidating men in the middleweight division put on a show where both men showed serious intent with almost every shot thrown and could've ended at any point throughout the entire fight and had there been 5 rounds to display their skills, it might have.
This fight, in my opinion, was the passing of the torch in who is the "toughest" man at middleweight as no one calls out Yoel, and no one had defeated him at middleweight not named Robert Whittaker. A very ballsy move on Costa's part, but he gets the recognition and physical damage that comes with fighting a man like Yoel Romero.

- Holloway vs. Poirier II
- Dustin Poirier | Decision
- 2019 | UFC 236
-
A 5 round throw down between two of the UFC's finest pressure strikers and it was showing of exactly that. Through 5 rounds we were able to see the heart of Max Holloway, and the skill, strength and power improvement in Dustin Poirer since moving to lightweight and leaving his featherweight frame behind. This is most definitely a future classic.

3
- Gastelum vs. Adesanya
- Israel Adesanya | Decision
- 2019 | UFC 236
-
This fight was exactly what I believe everyone was wanting it to be, as the two men absolutely tore into one another to the point of exhaustion in a fight where both men got hurt and showed moments of greatness. Had they both had good experience fighting 5 rounds this fight might have been one of the greatest of all time.

4
- Cejudo vs. Moraes
- Henry Cejudo | KO/TKO | Round 3
- 2019 | UFC 238
-
The Underdog rises! Moraes was a good favorite and an absolute destroyer finishing Raphael Assuncao, Jimmie Rivera and Aljamain Sterling in succession. Cejudo was written off as an easy win in the minds of a lot of fans, and after fighting heavy adversity in the first round Cejudo was able to find his rhythm in the second and overwhelm his larger opponent with pressure to get the finish by TKO.

5
- Ferguson vs. Cerrone
- Tony Ferguson | KO/TKO | Round 2
- 2019 | UFC 238
-
This fight was what the fans expected as far as entertainment and skill. Ferguson once again got to show the world that he is a boogeyman that eats pain, and Cerrone showed everyone that even though he has gotten older he can still hang with the best of the best, but this fight left the fans wanting a little more due to the eye inflating incident brought on by a blown nose.
