just watched his interview with Helwani:  http://www.livestream.com/mmahour
he says, as all you know i think, that he wants to get back to UFC and that he would win a fight against anybody not top 5.
his top 5 are Overeem, Dos Santos, Velazquez, Mir and Kongo (if im not mistaken).
he even says he would fight just for the win bonus if thats what it takes.

so how do you guys think he would fare in the new heavyweight division?
(i havent seen any of his fights i think since he lost to Minotauro, i think)

Tim Sylvia would most likely get owned by the top ten in the UFC right now

His fight against Kraniotakes was dreadful.

I don't think he belongs in the UFC right now.  His performances have not justified it and I hope this PR campaign doesn't work.  You should get into the UFC based on demonstrating you belong there.

exactly, not begging to be let back in

I had to unfollow him on twitter because my timeline was filled with him retweeting fans that keep asking Dana to let him back in

I watched the MMA Hour yesterday and it sounded like Sylvia just wants to have one more fight and after that, retire. He didn't say that but thats what I thaught it sounded like.

Why not, he had some good fights in the UFC and after all is a former hw champ. He called out "Cheschz Kongo" several times so I wouldn't be pissed if he gets the chance to say goodbye to his fans on the big stage by getting KTFO by one of the HW's who actually belong in the UFC.

He left the UFC because he wasn't getting paid enough and now he wants back in because he isn't getting paid enough......He has done nothing to prove that he deserves to fight in the UFC again...! I counted 5 maybe 6 HW's in the UFC that he could beat and they were all on the lower end of the division.... Certainly not "anybody not top 5"

Instead of begging to be let back in, He should go win some fights that mean something.

I don't have a problem with him being back in as long as he can make the weight. Sure, he isn't a contender. But the HWD has a long tradition of freakshow fights it's almost a part of the sport now. I think he would put on some entertaining fights against guys like Struve, Hunt, or Barry. If they let James Toney compete, then I say let's do it!

Well he did say that he would accept a $5,000 contract to show and 5Gs as a win bonus.

He then followed that statement with (paraphrasing) I'd get KO of the Night and make 60 grand. Fat chance.

I'd have no problem with him having a retirement in the UFC, but don't pretend that people want to see you because they don't.

I would watch Big Tim anytime let him prove himself against one of the low tier guys. No reason not to if he is actually willing to fight for peanuts the UFC could make some money off of this. Put him on Fuel prelims and watch the ratings.

I have to agree with @Gregory and @poir.. you really need to earn your way back into the UFC imo, however, I understand your business related thoughts @Thefreeman.

Oh, I didn't mean I want Sylvia to fight Toney. I was just saying that if they let James Toney compete, then they can easily justify letting Sylvia compete again.

The Toney situation was/is a little different than Tim's.

I think a 250 lb. 13 year old could beat Tim Sylvia now a days.

Tim has gone 6-1 post Ray Mercer. The 1 loss coming when he bashfully showed up at 311lbs for the wagner fight looks pretty bad. and the competion has been pretty poor but not terrible considering the quality of heavyweights outside of Zuffa/Bellator

Since he said he'd come back at a 5&5, why the hell not? What does the UFC have to lose, really? To the people saying that he should go out and get some wins that actually mean something.....well how is he supposed to? Zuffa has pretty much every heavyweight in the world that matters right now. I don't think he beats all that many people in the UFC, but he certainly wouldn't be as bad as some of the other fat, pointless heavyweights that are in the division right now.

i understand the wanting to get back to the top and even expressing that but begging for it is not the way to go. putting on fights against quality fighters and winning is. oh, and showing that you give a damn about your weight couldn't hurt either
