Are we sure its Elder vs. Flowers and not Flowers stepping into one of the welterweight fights on the main card?

Adding a 12th fight when the card is only 3 days away seems very uncharacteristic for the UFC, especially when it's two low level guys that aren't even going to fight in their proper weight class. What's the point?

Fight Night Picks

Predictions: 10 of 12 Winners, 5 Perfect, 680 Points   |   2nd Place

Brundage vs Abdul-Alhassan

Picking between these two was like picking whether I wanted to get kicked in the balls with a pair of spiked cleats or uppercutted in the scrotum with a pair of brass knuckles. Both have single digit fight IQ, with most people leaning towards Alhassan because he at least has heavy hands. I’m gonna have to stick with Brundage on this one because Alhassan’s grappling, unlike what his nickname would imply, is atrocious. When you pin Alhassan on his ass, all the pros to his aggressive fighting style quickly falls apart like a dog turd in a rainstorm.

Santos vs Agapova

Mariya Agapova is an obnoxious self-absorbed xenophobic thunder**** of a woman. She’s also a jerk. Maybe if she spent a third of her free time learning how to defend a rear naked choke instead of ****ting on Ukraine, I might’ve considered her chances against Santos semi-realistic. Alas, this is the same twit who gassed and go out-grappled by Shana ******* Dobson, so any faith in her not getting submitted here should realistically be zero. Also, her nickname is ‘Demonslayer’. What a ******* dork.

Jackson vs Blackshear

I like Blackshear a lot but this is a hard task to ask of him. Montel has, for the most part, solid grappling defense, and has under-appreciated hand power despite his lack of finishes, which added with his long reach and Blackshear’s very upright posture where he often leaves his chin on the centerline during exchanges, along with Blackshear’s tendency to gas in R3, I can’t in good conscience give it to my boy.

The way you're feeling about Salikhov/Ponzi is how I'm feeling about Alhassan/Brundage.

I absolutely hate trying to pick Cody Brundage fights. Every time I think he's gonna win, he loses and vic versa (save his last fight where it was obvious he was cannon fodder).

The more I've thought about that fight the more I think it's very winnable for Brundage. Alhassan is a one trick pony with a bad gas tank who's already pretty long in the tooth.

oh I feel the same exact way about that fight too lol those 2 and the Jas/Kline fight are the 3 toughest to pick on the card for me. I just can't pick Cody. If I pick him and he ends up pulling guillotine for 3 rounds straight I might jump off a bridge lmao if Alhassan can't get the finish and gasses I can live with myself on that one

Brundage vs. Razak Alhassan
Abdul Razak Alhassan, TKO, R1
Brundage is a unique fighter to me, but not necessarily in a great way. He has legit power in his hands but is not a technical striker, and has good takedown entries and a very strong gilly but he has very bad grappling defense. He is a powerful athlete, but the only thing keeping him in the UFC is his finishing skills. He is good at going for the kill and he makes every fight scrappy but he just isn't that great of a fighter to be honest. He is very exploitable on the ground; he often jumps gilly when threatened with a takedown, and if he doesn't get it he either gets finished from there or he gets held down for a very long time. He can crack, as he hurt NIckal, Vieira where he took round 1 due to dropping him twice, and obviously Gore, but a good striker likely washes him on the feet. Brundage isn't great but he's good enough to where I feel like he has a chance in every fight. Abdul is extremely kill or be killed, but I just feel that he's a level above Brundage. I dislike picking old fighters usually but Brundage always reacts poorly to being hit and Abdul can crack. Going with an early R1 KO from Abdul just due to the style of fighter Abdul is.

The more I've thought about the fight, I'm finding it harder to do the opposite. What am I actually backing in 38 year old Alhassan? The guy has 2 UFC wins in the last 4 years against 2 fighters that aren't on the roster anymore. For awhile I think I was rating his performance against Buckley because I think Buckley is a great fighter. However, the reality is he couldn't beat a guy who's now a welterweight. A ranked welterweight, yes, and it was a close back and forth fight that had both guys completely gassed at it's conclusion, but he still lost to a guy that's now in a weight class below him.

I'm leaning towards switching my pick and taking the younger and more active fighter with just as much finishing ability. I feel like both of these guys have negative fight IQ so that cancels itself out. Brundage is the younger and better athlete with more tools. He's also much more active. Since Alhassan head-kicked the ghost of Di Chirico into retirement, he's fought 3 times. Brundage has had his entire 9 fight UFC career occur in the same time frame. He literally fights 3 times as often and with the exception of Maximov I'd probably take every fighter that's beaten Brundage in the UFC so far to also beat Alhassan.

Tough call but I think if Brundage survives the first 3 minutes of this fight his winning percentage goes up exponentially. Alhassan has a putrid gas tank and is a complete fish out of water if his feet aren't planted. He's never won a decision ever. The best way I can sum this fight up is if I were to say "Brundage wins this fight", id be saying it with little or no confidence. If I say "Alhassan wins this fight" I'm saying it with no confidence whatsoever.

I think the UFC is trying to throw Brundage a bone here after taking the Nickal fight to get his record in the UFC to .500.

I swore up and down Brundage was gonna beat Dumas after watching what Fremd did to him. I share this viewpoint with great hesitancy. Brundage might be one of the bigger enigmas currently in the UFC. The guy has all the physical tools to be an above average fighter but he just hasn't been able to put it all together yet.
