The reason she goes to split is because she has zero power. It's hard to score a fight for someone who does no damage.

Who has she actually submitted in the UFC?
I used to think if it hit the ground with Dern it was over. Then I watched Marina Rodriguez almost out grapple her and her lose to Torres and Yan (who has zero ground game)
Her submission wins are Hannah Cifers, Randa Markos and Nina Nunes who has zero ground ability.
So even if Hill who is a real WMMA vet loses on the ground how is Dern going to get it there? Make a wish and rub a lamp?
Striking wise Hill destroys her. My only problem is that this is 5 rounds. Making the chance of it hitting the ground at least twice higher. But I have no faith in Dern being able to get a submission even if it does. She couldn't even submit Yan or Rodriguez. If someone depends mainly on there BJJ we are finding out again and again that it doesn't work

I expect her to do that here. I wouldn't worry about a sub post late in 2nd round TBH. Dern has two rounds of sufficient cardio for a TD and sub.

Dern's issue was her awful wrestling. Also she spends a lot of energy whenever it goes to the ground. She has great technical skill compared to other UFC fighters obviously but she also puts all her power into her grappling to get a finish. You can see she slows down a bit afterwards whenever she spends an extended amount of time on the ground and don't find a sub.
