I actually really like this card, so long as it's the weekly B-side of the UFC that keeps some action happening, rankings moving, developing young fighters to the feed into the big PPVs. I even like the Apex as the place to do it, but they gotta find a way to get like 2-3 thousand seats in there. Treat it like AA baseball or something. If I lived in Vegas, it'd be a fun way to kill an afternoon. I imagine they'd still sell out every single time.

I see it as a win win. Not sure what the higher ups are thinking. It’s a one time opportunity cost that would generate insane revenues for them. They could clear 250k per apex event rather than the 10-20k they make for over charged seats

I think there's still a lot of value in a "regular season" type UFC atmosphere. Dont save everything to stack the big cards. Expand. I bet a lot of guys would love to do the Khamzat or Kevin Holland thing and just keep fighting every month.

I'm going to do a way deeper dive over the course of the week but my preliminary thoughts are it's basically 50/50. I lean Simon but it's very close. I think Song would need to KO him and Ricky is just so well rounded and really hard to put away. Simon's boxing looks better than ever and his wrestling has always been legit.
However, I was also extremely impressed with Song in his fight with Sandhagen. I won't say Corey is lucky he got that Dr. stoppage because he caused all that damage, but he dropped the first 2 rounds on 2 judges score-cards. As battered as Song was, he looked ready to go out on his shield and finish that fight.
Honestly A1 matchmaking. Perfect opponent for each guy given where they are in the division. This should have been a main event from the jump IMO.
