As of now Ankalaev needs a fight down but not below TOP5, Rakic is 3x times better idea for an Ankalaev fight. As for Jan if Spann wins vs Krylov. Well you have a much better fight for Jan aswell.

Personally, I disagree with the Ankalaev vs Rakic. I feel like that would be equivalent to booking Allen vs Chikadze if his fight with Holloway ends in a controversial draw. Ank doesn't need to fight down, he needs to either rematch Jan or fight someone else for a number 1 contender's fight

But he fights down when he fights Jan anyway. And Rakic is just behind Jan in rankings. And for UFC it does not rly make sense to put a 40 yo Jan into nr.1 contendership fight. And probably Dana himself would have told media that he does not think Jan deserves another shot at the gold. So at this point Jan is a gatekeeper.
