Is it time to let Stipe slide down the rankings?  It's been over 4 years since getting a win over someone currently relevant.

We all know the Cormier wins were good at the time.  Are they still enough to hold such a lofty spot on a rankings list dated April 2022?

What say you?  :)

@DamienHandel420

OK cool.  Drop him to 7.  Thanks for the input.

I mean.. the only guy he's beat in ages is on the consensus list at about #107.

They were big time wins when they happened, no doubt.  The question was, how long is everyone going to ride with them?

Why isn't Khabib on the top of everyone's list?  He would "literally murder" everyone listed above him also.  He announced his retirement and still has the same number of wins as Stipe lately.

If Joe Blow had a recent 2-1 record with the two wins coming over a retired 0-2 fighter... would that still qualify for the #7 spot, or does it have to be Stipe in the UFC for that to work?

Just wondering, that's all.  It's a discussion forum for discussion, right?

I like how you said "It's literally impossible to have a discussion", but then you keep coming back, having the discussion.

Peace.

Because Khabib is retired, meaning we won't see him fight again. Stipe is still fighting and still has a win over the current champion.

The thing is that Khabib is retired for like 2 years now that why he not ranked, Same with DC, It so simple bro, Stipe is still fighting

I say it also fact that DC is still better then Fedor, Dontell Mayes,Lois Herriqe, Parker Porter, Josh Parision, Rodigo Naccimato, Shamil Abdurakoha now even though he been retired for 2 years, And you still rank all these people above Stipe

Bro, also, you ranking is so easy to discuss, The disrespect you have to top fighter , You rank scrubs over top fight like  Izzy, Rob, Stipe, Dustin, Justin, Francis and Stipe etc , They're top fighter in the word for a reason, Your on a fight discussion board talking about ranking and having those ranking, People are going to talk about it, They're the worst ranking I seen, Because it also a serious rankings

Also, the thing is that you clearly knowledgeable about MMA, To know all the fighter you rank about the champions is hardcore fan stuff, I will say I don't know all the fighter you rank, The problem is trying to be diffrent just make you look stupid, instead of smart,

@ Hadrian Caeser

Oh, I get it.

I'm just asking about where everyone draws their own line and/or if it's consistently applied.

I guess if the person says the words, "I retire" that's a good place to start.   Works for me.

If you're making your list based on who you think would beat who amongst people who haven't said "I retire" yet, then I guess the possibilities are endless.

I'm not even saying that negatively.  If you want to make your list based on who you think would beat who, I'm all for you going with that.  Do it up.

What if you beat a guy, and then he says "I retire" right after the match?  Does it count for less?

What if you beat a guy, then you announce your retirement right after the match?  Does the win count toward your rankings?

If you want to include matches that happened over 4 years ago, I sincerely say go for it.

I don't care what everyone does for criteria, honestly.  I'm not sure why anyone cares what I use.  I certainly never asked anybody to care.

I was just curious about what criteria people use to keep Stipe in the top 5.  I never said you weren't allowed to do it.  :)

If a guy you beat retires it shouldn't really effect your win that much. If you retire after getting a win then your retired lol, out the rankings. I'd say 4 years may be a little far and i do think Stipe should slide down the rankings a bit until he fights a top 5 guy but the win over Francis has to contribute somewhat to his top 10 status. Hoping that can answer the og question, imo Stipe should be around 5, just behind blaydes but just in front of Aspinall and Lewis. Though as far as i'm concerned with his hw goat status a win against Jones or anyone else in the top 5 could shoot him back up

I'm an enigma.

Now that you're here, what's your take?  What would need to happen before you consider dropping Stipe down your list?

Reminder:  There are no wrong answers here.  You're in a safe place.  :)

The real beauty is being accused of trolling a topic that I wasn't even intending to talk about.

I have special powers to have strangers go off topic then hurt their feelings on the new topic that I didn't even bring up.

It's a gift.

On another note...

If a fighter is 1-5 in his last 6, hasn't won in over a year and the guy he beat is 1-4 in his last 5, and the guy that person beat is 4-4 lately, is the primary fighter someone who should be going up a spot in this week's consensus rankings?

If Stipe fights Jon Jones, and beats him, that will silence everyone.

@ Anthony

It will silence some... though Jones would be a historically skilled opponent, with zero history at HW and coming off a long absence... and becoming an increasingly unstable human being in the process.

I imagine there would still be questions... like why doesn't Stipe just fight the established top HW guys more often to solidify a top spot?

That's the thing with Jones: Despite all the roadblocks he puts in front of himself, Jones is arguably the greatest MMA fighter of all time.

And I agree 1,000% with Dana White: The result of the Matt Hamill fiasco should be officially changed to a no-contest.

Im just starting out at this ranking stuff but Im jus tryna base all my rankings of who i think would beat who right now should they fight with exception to #1 which i give the champ.

That being said, if he was a HW option I would put Jones at number 3 right now, knowing what he plans to do, with a belief its a 50/50 coin toss who wins that fight.

As far as time decay goes unless they flat out say they retire, time away doesnt hold much weight for me. Hell i still got jones number 3 or 4 p4p rn lol
