I agree with you - I think he fights in that way, simply because he is lacking enormous fight IQ.
Every time I watch him fight I think to myself "This guy doesn't know what the best option is in this spot, he's probably lost here"

I think his ability to escape subs was more from Rodrigues being really bad at controlling people on the ground (watch his fights to see what I mean). I was shocked to see him escape from that knee bar tho

True, but commentators mentioned on Contender how he relentlessly 'Dagestan" trained to escape being taken down. He also did get up a bunch on Contender before landing the KO

True. I mean the tape I’ve seen of him he has no tdd. He’s good at getting up but hasn’t faced a good grappler. Now, Gadzhi is a fraud so it’s not the best test of Caio’s grappling, but on paper he seems to be the best grappler petrosyan has fought (obviously Gregory is more credentialed but he is more of a striker in mma)

Just watch the Caio fight. Caio is good but Gadzhi has nothing for him. You don’t dominate someone like that unless you are either A. Unbelievably good (Caio is very solid but he’s not nearly as dominant as top level guys) or B. There’s a serious mismatch in skill level. Gadzhi was not in that fight for a single second

At least Jeffery was competitve. Gadzhi got chewed up and spit out. It was a pathetic preformance and he didn’t have anything anywhere. I’d like to see his next fight as a true judge if his skill. Maybe he’s not a fraud but that was a mismatch; they were not on the same skill level. I mean wrestling is his main game and he could barely get takedowns and when he did, he got reversed everytime
