My thoughts about the sport of MMA. Maybe nobody cares and I’m screaming into the void, but it’s better than talking someone’s ears off IRL.

Johnny Eblen

I’m not shocked that Eblen beat Mousasi. In fact I think you could find a fighter ranked in the 50 in each weight class that could beat even dominate the number one guy. Beaming number 1 or at the top doesn’t mean you can beat everyone. That’s not what professional MMA is about. Being number 1 means your skills, accolades and popularity are all at the top of the game. There are SEVERAL fighters ranked as high as 50 maybe more that have top 10 talent. The thing is NO ONE cares enough to watch them fight so why do they deserve a chance.

Jared Cannonier

Since it’s Cannonier fight week, it’s a must to remember UFC Fight Night: Rothwell Vs. dos Santos.

This was the card that made Cannonier realize he should move down in weight class. Other than the main event, the card also included heavyweights Derrick Lewis, Francis Ngannou, Curtis Blaydes, and Gabriel Gonzaga. Seeing all those legit UFC heavyweight greats made him realize let me get this weight right. And can’t blame him, his hard work pays off at UFC 276.

Bryan Barberena

Bryan Barberena vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio is a perfect next match up for Barberena.

First off, because of his win streak Barberena deserves to get the fight he wants. The fights have proven to be wildly entertaining. And he isn’t calling out an easy fight.

For Ponzinibbio it’s a perfect fight to rebound off a skid if he can get the win. Knowing the style of both fighters, it has huge upside for both.

UFC featherweight division

Even though last night looked like the end of Holloway, it was actually the end of the featherweight division. There are no interesting fights left in the division. None of the contenders proved to pull away from the pack, that’s why we got Volk vs. Max 3.

Volkanovski needs to move up for an interesting title fight. Same deal for Holloway. Holloway has beaten the contenders at featherweight.

Both men are clearly 1 & 2 in the current featherweight division. They might be 1 & 2 all time too.

I’m all for competition but Emmett hasn’t done enough of late to fade either one of these legends.

If Yair beats Ortega next weekend he deserves a shot, he was bullying Max on the feet and turned him into a wrestler.

I understand that Yair is probably the next deserving but that is part of the problem. I don’t know if losing a close decision to Max (after Max was dominated by the champ) and beating Ortega (who was thoroughly dominated by the champ and Max Holloway) warrants a title shot. He needs to show more, especially if he wants to fight a legend like Volkanovski. Volkanovski could very well take the challenge, but in my opinion he would be risking to much fight Yair, when Yair hasn’t earned it.

The champion and Max have fought 4 times since 2020. How can the contenders have fought less fights? It’s madness. I can see the champion moving up and a fight for the vacant belt involving Max happening.

O’Malley has Henry Cejudo, one of the few legit double champs who defended at two weight classes, the Olympic gold medalist calling HIM out. How can you not be a fan of O’Malley. He is doing the fight game correctly.

The self proclaimed unranked champ has got HENRY CEJUDO calling him out. O’Malley does not have ONE win over a ranked opponent.

What was Cejudo’s entire career for if this is what he is doing for clout or for his career?

Chris Wade is looking unstoppable at the moment. He by far has the best skill set for his division in the PFL. A showcase fight in Europe versus a popular fighter in Loughnane is a great way to start his playoffs.
