The fight of Ramirez vs. Melendez left me a lot to think about: I chose Melendez because I actually picked the fight without researching the fighters (I didn't know that Ramirez was ''the Zurdito'' who is a high-ranked WBC fighter and that Melendez hadn't faced much opposition). I only chose any of the 2 without reviewing in Boxrec, because when I put my pick I was about to close. Although I'm sure most of those who chose Melendez did so because of his record without checking boxrec, odds, or seeing tapes. But the incredible thing was the closeness of the fight. Ramirez had a hard time finding the distance and he was only able to work at close range and with volume past the 6th round. For me the fight was 96-94 Ramirez, although the most logical thing was 95-95. When I heard the scorecards the 98-92 margin I thought Melendez would win (because of his strong start and the many rounds where Ramirez worked from close range, Melendez worked with the jab, landed a couple of good hands and passed punches) . But Ramirez won in large part because it was a close fight and he was side A. No doubt Ramirez will have a difficult time against someone ranked in this category who handles medium and long distance very well.
