Russian invasion of Ukraine thread.

I'll post what's happening as it comes through for purposes of posterity. Doubt the veracity of what is posted here. Having lived through the Iraq war, I am sure that the vast majority of what gets reported will turn out to be either misinformation or outright ********. Posting because a lot of non-Australia members will be asleep, now. I'll report as much as I can.

So far the g****vine is:

Russia has indeed embarked on a full scale invasion of Ukraine. Air attacks, and ground forces. There has been at least one missile strike, there have been front-line Ukranian casualities ( have seen video, cannot post it here, too graphic).

Belarus has thrown in with Russia/is issuing support.
Reports of Ukrainian air defence having shot down multiple Russian planes, either drones or fighters.

Russia has been gathering its military next to border for like 3 or 4 months if not longer, I knew about it since like December. Highly doubtful if there will be any interference from countries other than Russia, Belarus or Ukraine in a military way.

For about 18 hours Russia has been slowly claiming territories, in last hour or two they claimed Chernobyl areas, which is a threat for the whole Europe as it still can be used to attack European potable water and radiation can still be activated. It'll be another arguement to Putin's negotiations in the future.

UK, Germany, USA are only threatening with sanctions, no signs that it would change. It is said from some sources that USA government believes Ukraine will be fully invaded in a few days.

Multiple videos show how many people from Ukraine emigrate.

Polish people and the government show support and organise transport, place to live etc.

First places they attacked were mostly military and not military airports, bases etc. Basically a try to mess with the logistics.

As I am no reporter and don't hold neutral side its clear to say Putin is a freak. Russia should be excluded from culture, sport etc. Don't organise international events here. Exclude their sport teams.

Ukraine is bravely defending. 

Boris Johnson has this evening confirmed a further 10 measures which will be enforced against Russia, on top of the sanctions confirmed earlier this week.

These additional sanctions are:

• An intention to impose asset freeze on all major Russian banks with an immediate freeze against VTB which has assets totalling £154bn
• To introduce legislation on Tuesday that will prohibit the ability of all Russian companies to raise finance on UK markets
• To issue sanctions against individuals, entities and their subsidiaries which include Rostec - Russia's largest defence company
• Look to imminently ban the ability of Russian airline Aeroflot to land in the UK
• To immediately suspend the use of export licences to Russia - an example being electrical components or parts of military trucks
• To lay legislation "within days" that will prohibit a wide range of high tech exports to Russia.
• Look at introducing legislation that would limit the amount of deposits Russian nationals will be able to hold in UK bank accounts.
• To work with G7 and NATO allies to shut off Russia's access to the SWFIT payment system
• To extend this full range of measures to Belarus
• Look at bringing forward the Economic Crime Bill which will take action against Russians who raise funds in the UK.

Sanctions etc. What a load of crap. It's boots on the ground Ukraine needs. I'm yet to see anything that even suggests allies are sending any real help, it's pathetic and disgusting. Are we really just going to let Ukraine get merked? Putin can withstand sanctions until the cows come home. 

We need a fight night Kyiv… if only all could solve their beef through mma.

It was the only reason they (Russia, made a big deal) wouldn't let Ukraine into NATO, to prevent this from that happening (The attack on one is attack on all mantra). Honestly, (based on my research) this may be more of an implosion that will effect Eastern Europe and Russia. If Poland or any former Soviet nation gets even any touch or anything then, something may be interesting. The fact that India was mentioned as a player in this was VERY interesting, so yeah. Hoping for the best.

@Baz I know I'm nothing more than a random internet guy, but if you have time and actually read this thread, I hope you and your family is safe. I can't even imagine what goes through your mind, but I want you to know we hear you, we are more with you than our governments. You are welcomed in Poland if you have to leave your country. Apart from east checkpoints for you guys here in Poland, there are lots od people helping voluntarily. It'll all be fine, may the peace be with you and those close to you.

Its so ****** up that most of the people already made peace with other nationalities but those ******* bastards having the power sitting in those suits still can take decision whether to kill innocent people or not.

Russia should be excluded from the sport competitions, cultural events etc. Make them pay, start the revolution. People protested in Kazakhstan, it gave some results. Do the same in Moscow. They may arrest 1000, but they won't arrest 10000000. Plus make police leave their jobs. Make them feel shame. Wake the **** up, its 21st century, we should have already taken the lesson from 1914 and 1939. Idiots in charge 

@adrndc11 I forgot to post it last night but Ukraine is fighting on two fronts. Ukrainian separatists are fighting with Russia. I just don't see how Ukraine wins the war without NATO/allied support, which doesn't seem to be coming. Biden talked a big game but is ultimately  a weak, senile and demented puppet and the US will do nothing, and Johnson is taking his lead from Biden.

I also don't like that Russia is in the Chernobyl district. Not because I think they will tamper with it but because the idea of fighting in that district is terrifying to me. One disaster and we're looking at a nuclear catastrophe that could affect most of the EU.
