Al-Silawi vs. Lilly
Jarrah Hussein Al-Silawi, TKO, R1
Why is this fight even happening? Al-silawi is more than good enough to go straight into the PFL tournament, definitely better than some of last year's welterweights. Does anyone really need to see him beat up a 7-6 regional guy coming off of a loss to somehow be convinced?

How is Lilly the main event over Taylor? Let's ignore the fact that it's an obvious squash being that he's 7-6 but he literally lost to Taylor in his last fight. Plus Taylor vs Martin is much more competitive and evenly matched.

Pfl just has questionable matchmaking. They wanna give the good guys **** opponents so they have no choice but to sign them. They did the same thing with juma vs silvera. Juma literally lost his last fight because he faked finger biting

It's incredible hahaha. Coincidentally today when I saw the matchmaking of the PFL Challenge Series 1 it seemed to me that it was the end of the abundant missmatching in PFL (of course, PFL is also the promoter with the most upsets) and the possible course of the Established PFL against the PFL new blood.
I can understand missmatches like Cooper III vs. Jason Ponet, since the Frenchman was an addition to the PFL roster due to constant casualties due to injuries and covid cases.
I can also understand the missmatches between Kayla Harrison vs. Any of the 145 or even 135 pound fighters who didn't cut weight to fight in women's lightweight, first because pretty much the only natural 155 in WMMA is Kayla Harrison (and Larissa Pacheco, who was always 135 pounds now is having trouble make 155 pounds) and also because of the fact that Harrison is a double Olympic champion and PFL is going to hype this as much as possible (you don't want to allow her to win 6 years in a row and have a 30-0 record in the less competitive category of the PFL). But scheduling a missmatch in the selection process seems too far-fetched, hopefully Michael Lilly can deliver a closer contest than we all expect in this fight. But from my point of view this will be a Squash (as they would say in Pro-Wrestling), another one of those One Side fights as PFL were the last year like Rory vs. Millender, Cooper III vs. Ponet, Cappelozza vs. DeReese, Harrison vs. Dandois and Ferreira vs. Seumanutafa to mention some examples.

You are right about Juma vs. Silveira: I didn't remember the fish-hooking incident, and that honestly exposed Mohamed Juma as a dirty fighter: anyone can say he was a rookie mistake but he was going for a DQ win by finger bitting and turned out to be disqualified by fish hook.

I still find interesting a confrontation between a BJJ Player who has a good job in his stand-up fight like Silveira against a fighter who bases his strategy on Heavy Wrestling like Juma. But it is clear that Silveira in his last 3 fights has faced stronger opposition than Juma has faced throughout his career in the Middle East.

Yeah I mean Juma isn’t terrible but it’s just funny the organization would risk having a cheater in their organization should he beat silvera (which is pretty unlikely

That matchup has the interesting clash of a BJJ Artist against a Wrestler. In the PFL Challange Series there are very good fights like Taylor vs. Martin, Alexander Poppeck vs. Taylor Johnson and Carlos Leal vs. Socrates Pierre.
Hopefully PFL follows the guidelines of those last mentioned matchups and doesn't book vastly superior fighters against fighters who have 50% win-loss records.

I think they just want Al-Silawi and Silveira to get highlight wins and some main event "spotlight". I can't see any other reason why they wouldn't just let them go straight through to the PFL.

Yeah, Al-Silawi and Silveira were booked into the Challenge Series for an impressive win prior to the PFL season. But they are 4oz gloves and anything can happen in MMA.

It is unlikely, but there is always a considerable percentage that an upset happens.

Honestly seems pointless to put names on here, gives them a chance to get injured or lose an upset before the actual season.

Al-Silawi vs. Lilly
Jarrah Hussein Al-Silawi, SUB, R1
Everyone is gonna be picking Al-Silawi for good reason, BRAVE champ vs 7-6 fighter is a complete mismatch. I'll be a little different and pick him by sub cause he's got real underrated grappling.

Taylor vs. Martin
Dilano Taylor, SUB, R2
Very evenly matched fight which makes me think nobody will get the PFL contract. Good grappling from both sides, I say Martin takes the early lead and then Taylor gets a come from behind sub.

Leal vs. Pierre
Carlos Leal, TKO, R1
Hopefully they can sign 2 guys cause I think Leal will show out too. If they don't sign him I bet he gets a short notice UFC call.

Mixan vs. Pierce
Chris Mixan, TKO, R2
Good for these guys but I was a lot more excited for Barbosa.

I love what the PFL is doing with PFL Challengers, but having Ray Lewis and Jeremy Piven (Tyron Woodley perfect.) decide who gets into the PFL is highly suspect and Pivens commentary is horrible literally made a holocaust joke within 5 mins of the broadcast last week, almost everything he said made me cringe then Ray Lewis sits there with his finger in his mouth giving these fake ass looking reactions.

I really wanna get behind this but I genuinely can't. Jeremy piven and Ray Lewis shouldn't decide who gets an MMA contract with one of the major US orgs. The fact that they've potentially let Josh Silviera slip through there fingers says it all.

Ya good idea but very poorly executed. They need to fix a lot of things to make it work. Celebrities (especially celebrities who never fought professionally) should not be the deciding factor in signing someone because they simply know nothing about the sport. Souto last week was deserving of the contract but they should have signed silvera too; they just didn’t give it to him because he didn’t get a highlight reel ko. They also do need to fix up the matchmaking too. You just can’t have guys like Mohammed Juma or Jordan heiderman on your fight cards. It just comes off as unprofessional and makes it seem like they are creating favorable matchup for guys to get on the show. If PFL wants guys ln the show then sign them, don’t create mismatches and give cheaters the opportunity to get on the big show. I haven’t watched challenger series either but I heard that, like typical PFL broadcasts, the pacing was horrible. People don’t like when the ufc has 20 minute breaks in between fights so I don’t think people want to wait 20 minutes to lower level guys than the ufc. All in all, I like the contender series idea that the ufc has created, but if PFL is going to copy it, at least do it correctly

For example, I get they want to showcase jarrah Hussein Al-selawi; he’s a great talent and could probably compete in any major org. So, he has a resume better than most fighters on the pfl roster, BUT, they feel he needs to be on the challenger series? This is a man who has beaten multiple ufc fighters (finished them too actually) and you guys match him up with a 7-6 32 year old??? Even if Hussein is a bust, what is the pfl even gonna do with Lilly should he win? He’s 7-6 against bad comp, nobody wants to watch him fight. If the pfl is doing this because they want Hussein to get signed, then just sign him and create a new main event; there’s plenty of unsigned prospect who could take the slot
