They count EVERY strike, even those that don’t look like they do any damage or are from the clinch or on the ground. Looking at the strikes stats rarely tells the story of the fight. Keeping your own strike count is better like @njrp77

I don't see how strike numbers matter when damage is still counted the most in the rules. Just because someone lands more strikes doesn't mean they did more damage, that's why judges watch the fighters and they don't stare at the computer monitor waiting for the stats to show up. You have to actually look at their faces, body language, etc, you can see Askarov's face taking more and more damage, there were punches that clearly wobbled him and some put him in deep trouble. How does he win a fight off of body triangles, takedowns and occasionally making Kai go backwards when the other guy is blasting him in the face? Where is Askarov's damage?? Can anyone explain that so that we can get a clearer picture as to how he won that fight? You don't start going "Oh his stand up wasn't that great and he didn't do as much damage, BUT his pressure and wrestling were much better" okay that's only important to you then, the rules only care about who did more damage, and Kai did more damage rounds 2 and 3. If you disagree, fine, but to start disregarding the main factor to winning an MMA fight and go to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th scoring categories just because your guy failed in that main category is gambling cope if I've ever seen it. Just say you have your own scoring criteria and we can all leave it at that. You can even think that because per your own strike count, that means Askarov did more damage and you think he wins. Fine, cool. But it just irritates me that people can sit there and go "well he didn't do more damage than Kai, so I'm going to disregard the rules their fight was scored under".

Almost a $2million gate https://twitter.com/damonmartin/status/1507914618009792515?s=21&t=7vKEZVfcfSrGELqpsH85pA

Last year was their most profitable year in like 26 years of operations. They're slowly losing more and more ground in the fighter pay discussions on the side of "their pay is fine". I imagine if the success continues and there are no raises in pay, we might not see a union form, but I can imagine there will definitely be some forms of "boycotts" against the company from the fighters and their camps.

Totally right @check. I like to score fights using my own criteria.

I went back and looked at round 3 and if you count any strike thrown from distance and some strikes while they were engaged (which is subjective), you will see that the UFC stats are approximately correct.

Looking at the third round again also I don’t see Askarov damaging Kara-France with any of his strikes. The commentary was saying that Kara France had to push the pace more, but the commentary team isn’t judging the fight closely and are just trying to keep the viewer engaged. In the Gutierrez fight, Bisping said it was a mistake to throw a spinning fist in the first round so you can see how the commentary team can be wrong.

I like Tuivasa for Aspinall because it shows he can handle the toughest and strongest.  Gives him more confidence.  I don't like the match up for Tuivasa but he has made a living recently defying the odds.

heres a quote from a interview with matt brown discussing how inconsistent the scoring system is in mma.

“I think there’s a lot broken with the entire scoring system altogether,” Brown said. “I’ve watched my fight a few times. That’s just one example. I’ve had a couple of other fights that I’m very sure that I won a decision, but they gave it to the other guy. I don’t know exactly what they’re scoring. I’ve been in this sport for 20 years, I’ve been in the UFC 14 years now, I don’t know exactly what they’re scoring."

Any one coming on here disputing the decision opinions are wasting their time and just down right ignorant to the problem plaguing mma on a whole. You can disrespect the people who have opinions on here all you want but i highly doubt anyone speaking on this board garners more respect then matt brown. He doesn't understand what there scoring. That says it all

Petr Yan DQing himself and Greg Hardy using an inhaler in between rounds shows that fighters on every level don't read the rules they're fighting under lol

apparently I'm supposed to believe these guys can all find these weird memes and **** all over social media and stuff but they can't find the scoring system the MMA judges use? hahaha

@CheckLeftHook, very true. As far as Yan and Eddie Alvarez for that matter, I get it because it’s a fight and instinct takes over. I loathe Greg Hardy (woman beater &Eagles fan) it’s true but I blame his corner kore for that. He’s an athlete green in the sport. I feel that’s the kinda thing his corner needs to aid with. He’s busy, or should be, learning techniques and training, IMO. You’re not wrong though.

insulting two fighters that got dq'd has nothing to do with the widely debated topic of how a mma fight is scored. Its not well known, there are lots of discrepancies from judge to judge. you might agree with the askarov dec but that doesnt mean you can't watch one fight in the entire ufc history and not agree with the judges one time. its happens everyone is human
