I so hope that Garbrandt's weight cut helps him to literally take it on the chin; as in OUT COLD

It's never good when a veteran with a weak chin goes down a weight class, you can't fix this by going down a weight class Cody. We've seen going up a weigh class generally be very beneficial to some fighters, but I believe when you go down you only zap yourself of that speed, power, cardio

Still can't believe Pettis went down to 145, this is desperation from Cody, it's too bad. The man who beat Cruz, that was Cody's defining moment. Font loss is nothing to be ashamed of, I see no reason to go down in weight.

Thoughts on Cody Garbrandt's flyweight debut.

Predictions: 8 of 14 Winners, 5 Perfect, 630 Points   |   Tied for 838th

It may all initially seem like a fighter's whim to change weight class, but one reality is that Cody Garbrandt's walk around weight is 143 pounds so he doesn't actually cut weight as such to fight at bantamweight. . This, although it may not seem like it, is a great disadvantage when it comes to entering the octagon: Fighters like Rob Font, Cory Sandhagen, Ricky Simon, Cody Stamann and Brian Kelleher have in common that they once developed a career in featherweights (before or during his start in the UFC) this is because they cut a considerable amount of weight to reach the 135-pound mark on the scale (for this reason, the Font vs. Garbrandt fight at times seemed like a fight between 2 fighters of different categories).

With the proper nutritional advice, Cody should have no problem making a healthy weight cut, and since the arrival of an ex-champion to a different weight category always brings excitement to everyone, there are successful changes such as Frankie Edgar's switch from lightweight to featherweight (where after his first loss against Aldo, he achieved a 5-0 record. He finished with an overall 8-5 record in the category with losses to Aldo x2, Ortega, Holloway and Korean Zombie, all former champions or challengers to the title) and also the recent Aldo switch that started with many doubts regarding the weight cut, but for the moment it is accentuated in the top 5 of the category. There have also been ex-champions with bad runs when they decided to lose weight like Pettis (who only made 145 pounds once), B.J. Penn or Rashad Evans (who at Middleweight had two losses via split decision).

The change to flyweight is the opportunity to observe the real '' Cody 2.0 '' because this time he faces a different scenario: fighters with the same walk around and similar reach, but with the desire to add to his record the name of a ex-champion of the 135 pounds. Garbrandt showed improvements in his last 2 fights: against Assunção he showed a good kicking game and against Font despite losing he showed good timing to use his wrestling (his battle with COVID, could affect his cardio which usually always looked excellent) . A change in weight class also requires a change in mentality, leaving the past of bantamweight behind and starting on the flyweight path from scratch. In his interview regarding the possibility of fighting Brandon Moreno he mentioned being open to seeking submissions and it is good to see even a former champion trying to add new tools to his skillset and continue to grow as an athlete.

The success or failure of Garbrandt's flyweight debut will be determined on December 11.

i belive cody cant hang with the power of the 135 guys, bantam weight used to be short but over the years fighters cut more weight and thus we have more power punchers taller fighters and heavyer guys. and i think cody only cut 5 pounds so i dont think or hope the cut wont affect him that much.
its really sad seing him being at the top and looking untoucheble and now he getting beat up for 5 rounds sad stuff i really look foward to this fight and wish cody the best

I'm lowkey confident in Charles Olivera winning the fight, It more of a vibe thing then anything. I'm taking the underdog odds on it. I been telling my mates for month that he going to beat dustin. Also I heard Dustin might retire after this fight. But that might be fake news

Not sure Dustin will tire out or Oliveira will take over late. Both of their extensive histories show each guy doing the opposite. Dustin digs deep late, Charles has wilted under pressure.

Dustin can definitely throw himself into harm's way early on, and the opportunities for a choke will be there. But as the fight goes, Dustin will put the pressure on and take over.
