Next basho in November.

This is the equivalent to Michael Jordan or Babe Ruth retiring. Hakuho is easily the most dominant athlete to ever step inside the dohyo (even more impressive considering sumo is a multi century year old sport).

I'd guess that unlike other sports when sumo wrestlers retire, their first priority would be to try and shed all that extra weight right? I'd have thought that wanting to get down to a more manageable weight would be a big factor in making a fighter retire.

In this case it seems like his knees are just done, but yeah I do notice that.

Do you love sumo but wish you could pick the fights? If this is you then Katchi Clash is right up your alley. The goal is to predict the rikishi with the best record in each rank of top division.

I signed up for that Katchi Clash game under StephenTerry. I have no clue so I just picked what seemed like favourites according to other people's picks.

An admirable quest. More people should get into sumo, it's just a magnificent sport

Yeah I think it fits well with combat sports fans too.

There's just such a deep amount of skill to it, it's a shame most media portrayals in the west are heavily stereotyped

Hoping especially that Akua and Ura will make a great showing, both lads are always great fun to watch.

Terunofuji is a lock as always. Kiribayama is a solid pick he had a good last basho if I remember correctly. Daieisho is a risky pick but he did win a basho this year and I'm pretty sure he got a Katchi Kochi his last run around. I didn't pick Ura because he's probably going to be given tough matchups or slip while he's trying to do something risky. He's definitely my favorite rikishi in top division I'm just not sure if a fun style translates to consistent winning. As for Abi its going to be interesting to see how well he can fit back into top division. I'm still relatively new to Sumo so I've never seen him compete in top division before.
