I think FMRI's show 'material' brain damage. I have only ever known one guy who had it, it was caused by a motorbike accident.I've known multiple people who have either died or received life-changing Trauma due to motorbikes. Doesn't matter how good a rider you are, the roads are infested with ****tards.

I have suffered brain damage, and whether it be when I fell down while trying to slide down a railing and cracked my head, to a man beating my skull in and kicking me in the head while I was down. I can remember everything that night but the beating, but it changed my life.

I'm much more quick to anger, confusion, and I forget a lot of things. I stare into nothingness, people around me are there but I'm not aware. I guess it really depends on the person.

@Damien and @Fish. mild traumatic brain injury is my thesis work. It’s hard to model in humans, but it’s one of the most prevalent accidents in developed countries. There’s not really a shortage of samples, it’s just actually getting to the brain to look at it that is challenging. fMRIs are the best imaging option but still like looking at a drop of water and trying to understand the ocean. That’s why we have to merge human and animal models. Also using post mortem samples from military, athletes, and other at risk individuals helps. It’s a lot more challenging to analyze than say cancer or heart disease. Which is why even now there is not a single treatment for concussions that has been proven to be effective. It’s ridiculous.

@Tieoken I don't think we're going to solve this stuff anytime soon. Part of the reason I don't believe that we're even close to AI that can replicate consciousness is because we don't even know what consciousness is. We've been trying to get a handle on it since the Greeks and we're still nowhere. Not even Google, with it's entire philosophy team, engineers, and limitless resources has been able to create anything even like a patch on the human mind.
