Prediction: wrong Chonan   wrong Submission   wrong Round 2

This fight is very tough to pick. It will either end with Chonan by submission, or Sakurai by KO. I will go back and forth on this fight. Probably until the weigh-ins.

Sakurai is on a 4 fight losing streak and hasn't fought in a year...Taking Ryo via decision

I think this is one of those times you need to look a little deeper:

April 5, 2009 - Sakurai KOs Aoki in 27 seconds
July 20, 2009 - gets head kicked by Zaromskis 4:03 rd 1
December 31, 2009 - subbed by Gono 3:56 rd 2
May 29, 2010 - subbed by Nick Diaz 3:54 rd 1
Dec. 31, 2010 - lost a split decision to Jason High

meanwhile Chonan:

April 18, 2009 - loses split dec. to T.J. Grant at UFC 97
since then 5-2 with dec. Ws over Jutaro Nakao, Andrews Nakahara, and Naoki Samukawa and KOs over Jun Hee Moon and Shigetoshi Iwase while being KOed by Hwan Cha Jung and Taisuke Okuno in 19 seconds. I don't think any of Chonan's opponents have been as good as Gono who I'd say was Sakurai's easiest (even though he lost and beat Aoki).

I agree with mulefloyd. Another consideration is that Sakurai looked very good against High, which he arguably should have gotten the nod against if I remember the fight correctly ( I remember seeing myself scoring the fight for Sakurai by narrow margin, but it's also been a year so my memory could be deceiving me).

The longer this fight goes then it just makes Chonans chances even higher imo.

Two years ago I would have picked Mach to finish this fight.

Sakurai has looked pretty disinterested in fighting for a while and more over he seems to avoid training hard with a passion. He also hasn't fought for about a year or so and I can't put those two together and feel good about picking him.
