Kevin Lerena, DEC
****! Another new weight division, just what boxing needs! I'd heard rumour that the WBC were thinking about handing out belts for a new "Bridgerweight" division but I didn't realise they went ahead with it. More divisions, more belts, more ********!!!!! **** you WBC!!!!!

On a more positive note, at least this is a good fight to make and I'd expect Kevin Lerena to win a comfortable UD win.

Not sure if the Lerena laggoune fight is happening now?  Its 1 of this situations I love, makes my job so fucin easy!  When a fight is announced, a poster is put out with the guys fighting, I add it to the schedule then magically the fight disappears from the schedule a week or 2 before the fight date.

Anyway, you'll be happy to hear that the WBC Bridgerweight division is stioll going full steam ahead!!!  There's a fight in Canada this Tuesday with Oscar Rivas and some schlub he already beat and who hasnt fought in 4 years!!!  They are fighting to decide the official Bridgerweight No.1 Contender!!!  It was meant to be a little tournament with the winner of that fight, Rivas, facing the winner of the supposed Lerena Laggounge fight.
I'm sure the WBC and Don Mauro Suleiman with think of another fantastic way to decide who should fight for the 1st ever Bridgerweight Championship of the world, I'm sure it won't be a giant joke!!!

@Mikey1903

The thing that pisses me off the most about it is the fact that it seems like another money grab by the WBC. If the Bridgerweight actually does what it was designed for and gives the smaller Heavyweights a chance to win a title against boxers who are closer to their size (similar to what the Cruiserweight division did) then I'd have no problem with it but I just feel that the motivations behind it are money orientated rather than to help the sport.

I'd heard a rumour (from Reddit so make of that what you will) that the WBC offered Deontay Wilder a fight for the vacant belt (unsure who the potential oppponant would've been) but he turned it down to chase that trilogy fight with Tyson Fury. If smaller heavyweights have to chose between fighting in the Heavyweight division and the Bridgerweight division then I feel that it would just lead to the Heavyweight division being split into two weaker divisions which I don't think really benefits anyone besides the WBC's bank account.

It's absolutely a money grab!!! Just another opportunity for the WBC to take their 5% sanctioning fees!
No doubt the IBF, WBA and WBO will follow suit and create their own division.
Of all the issues with boxing, and there are A LOT!  I feel these sanctioning bodies are the worst!!!!  With ******** mandatories, people able to buy rankings, no sense or order to any rankings (go have a look on boxing scene at the rankings and tell me if you have heard of half the guys ranked in the top 15) (Boxing Scene lists separate WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF rankings for every division)

It really should and could be as simple as the best fight the best but it rarely, if ever happens.
Thankfully this weekend boxing has an absolute gem of a fight. Between 2 of the very best in the world, not just in their division but P4P. Juan Estrada vs Chocolatito!!!!!
That is what keeps me in love with boxing.. A proper big fight between the best in the world. I just wish there wasn't so much **** surrounding it all!!!!

@Mikey1903

I've just checked those Boxing Scene rankings and you're right, I don't have a clue who half of those guys are on most of the lists! I never thought I'd see rankings worse than the BoxRec ones but I'm proven wrong yet again lol!

For me, the worse issue is not just the number of sanctioning bodies but the fact that the same bodies have multiple belts for the same division! That always confuses the **** out of me and I'm sure makes it almost impossible for new fans to understand how the sport works. The last thing the sport needs is another division! It kinda reminds me of one time I was in a pub with some of my mates (in the good old days of 2018!) and we chatting with this fairly big guy who was standing at the bar while we were waiting to be served and he said he was an amateur boxer who fought at "Titanweight" which he explained was between Super Middle and Light Heavy. I'm sure he was just drunk out of his mind but we got a good laugh out of it after he left! I just hope one of the top brass at the WBC don't run into that guy and get ideas lol!

Anyway, the best we can hope for is that the first guy to win this "Bridgerweight" division decides to leave it in the ring but that would never happen unfortunately.
