I don't see why Joe Smith Jr. is the favourite in the betting. I'm more impressed with the names on Maksim Vlasov's record, he's got the reach advantage and has more experience. It's a close fight and the odds do reflect that but I don't see why Smith Jr.'s the favourite at all.

Most of the time, you know your stuff when it comes to boxing so you'd have probably been right about Smith. Jr but as the fight is now off, what was it that we weren't seeing in him? On paper at least, it looked like a close fight but an extremely winnable one for Vlasov so why did you and the bookies have Smith Jr. as the favourite?

@Stephen I think they had Smith a favorite because he is coming of a big win over Alvarez and Vlasov never beat anyone as good as Alvarez. Like if one win make then forgot that Sulivan Berrera was able to outbox Smith...

That's a solid resume!
Maxim Vlasov is good when he's fighting in Russia vs old vets, former Champs, guys he's supposed to beat. He had 1 big win for me vs Rakhim Chakhiev way back in 2013/14. Any time he's stepped up to true World Championship level he lost( Krzysztof Glowacki and Gilberto Ramirez)
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a mismatch, Vlasov is a top 10 guy. But Smith is top 5, and IMO top 3,only behind the excellent Beterbiev and Bivol(Bivol beat Smith)
If you can, go watch Joe Smith last fight vs Eleider Alvarez and you may see what I do. He isn't going to beat you with amazing technique, a slick jab and footwork, he is strong, non stop, powerful, picks his power punches well and will break you up and finish you

Not me bud. I picked that Rugby player too! I originally thought Hunt would win, but after looking into it a little I thought Gallen would outwork a near 50 year old Hunt. Aslo MMA guys rarely do well in boxing

Thanks, I'll definitely check out that fight! I'd heard of Smith Jr. but I didn't really know anything about him and part of me was thinking that the only reason he was the bookie's favourite was because of American's just backing an American against a Russian in a close fight that they might also be able to get a bit of value on. Thanks!

Like I said, Smith is no master boxer. He wins by outworking his opponent, though I definitely see improvement.
Vlasov isn't terrible, I'm not gonna say you're wrong if you favour him. He has his qualities.
I just prefer Smith.
I also like him a lot because he won me money as an underdog vs Hart and Alvarez!!! Like Joe Joyce vs Dubois and Lyndon Arthur vs Yarde. If a boxer wins me money as an underdog I will always support them!!! Ha
