look what happened to chris weidman when he fought rockhold. herb dean let him take a terrible beating that was uncalled for. chris has never been the same since. i dont see the difference tbh. by your way of thinking rockhold should have stopped hitting him when he knew he couldnt fight back. its a dangerous sport, no one denies it and the fighters know it.

i would agree that walk off ko's are cool and lewis had one for sure. but you still cant blame lewis. no matter what.

@phillip I see the point you are trying to make but tkos are much different than kos, after the 3rd round ended Weidman got up, he stumbled, but he was still up. Blaydes was laying unconscious for 3 minutes

chris has a way better chance of suffering cte from a prolonged beating like that than blaydes does from getting hit a couple of time after he was out.

I know it’s hard to switch the adrenaline off but other fighters manage to do it straight away. I think in a way in every single sport it’s an athletes duty to be professional don’t act like an animal when the fights done. Lewis doesn’t actually fight with adrenaline or a chip on his shoulder at all. He only throws more than one punch when his opponent is already out. The only other times I’ve seen this is when it’s grudge matches. I get it’s part of mma and people like it for different reasons but to me that’s a black eye for the sport. If every person in the ufc acted like that it wouldn’t be televised anymore and they had to fight a lot for people to not see it that way in the first place

Phillip that’s completely different. Weidman was still conscious still moving and trying to defend himself even though he couldn’t. If Luke gets off of him weidman gets up and starts fighting back even if he was in no shape to. Herb is a terrible referee at the best of times these days. I think boxing is worse for cte since they are allowed to get concussed repeatedly but the sport is more mainstream because it appears cleaner even if it isn’t

I think Cormier just has more confidence in his game. He doesn’t panic shoot or force takedowns. Throw punches the shoot when he’s reacting. Lewis reacts like he doesn’t want to be there any time he gets punched. If blaydes got close to lewis when he was near the fence he could have put his weight on him and tripped him all he wanted. It wouldn’t have taken a lot for him to tire lewis out so the power isn’t a threat anymore

As far as the Chris Weidman talk, he was knocking out fighters that were older and giving them cte. But as soon as he fought someone as young as him - he couldnt handle it. He got his skull cracked by Yoel Romero's knee... thats why he has never been the same since. I remember because blood was dripping from his skull.

Rockhold just love-tapped him with an elbow to show him how it feels to KO someone. lol

Man those were the tail end of the Golden years of the UFC.

boxing is a lot worse than mma as far as concussions and cte goes. the thicker padded gloves allows fighters to take many heavy blows to the head. ive actually watched 2 fights live on tv where someone dies from their injuries. in 1962 i was 8 years old and watched with my dad on friday night fights when emille griffth beat benny paret to a pulp, he died a few days later. i was also watching live when ray mancini beat kim duk-koo to a bloody swollen mess in 1982. he also dies a few days later. the point being any contact sport that allows participants to absorb blows to the head is dangerous. everyone competing in these sports is aware of the danger. look at what went on in pro football for decades before it was exposed. people take the risks in search of reward.

My takeaways from this event:

Lewis might one day kill someone
Damage is finally starting to mean more than control
Erosa will always get flashed in his fights even if he wins in the first round
Aspinall and Daukaus are legit as **** but should be allowed to grow in the division.
