Obviously if Sakai can outbox Overeem, Volkov can. But I just feel like unless you knock Overeem out, he's going to find a way in the later rounds. Volkov just gave up a historic number of takedowns, and Reem just won a fight where he adapted to a guy's timing and started taking him down. We've also seen Volkov pitching perfect shutouts with his boxing only to get KO'd in the final minutes.

Prediction Comments

Predictions: 6 of 12 Winners, 2 Perfect, 390 Points   |   Tied for 1941st

Overeem vs. Volkov
Alistair Overeem, DEC
I heart picked Poirier, and I'll do the same here. Stylistically Volkov deserves to be the favorite, which he is, but Overeem can follow several blueprints to snag a win here. I'm not expecting it, but I'm rooting for a ground and pound finish by Alistair.

Sandhagen vs. Edgar
Cory Sandhagen, TKO, R1
Sandhagen has a 20% TDD which is kind of emberassing, but nobody ever really holds him there and does anything meaninful with it (unless your name is FUNKMASTER 135# CHAMP 2021). So, barring just a stinger of a strike that puts Edgar on wobble street early, I expect there to be at least one takedown from Edgar. It will be very defining out long he can hold him there when that takedown happens. On the feet, Sandhagen wins 10/10 times and most likely sleeps Edgar. So unless Edgar can keep this fight horizontal and avoid the slick striking of Sandhagen he's simply not walking out of this with a win. I love Frankie and I would love to see him get gold at 135, he's my favorite active fighter. But this is just a bad matchup for him all around. Who knows though, he might put Sandhagen through the Yair Rodriguez treatment and I wouldn't be that surprised.

Ferreira vs. Dariush II
Beneil Dariush, TKO, R2
What a treat of a fight. This is really going to decide the next person to make their presence known at 155. I think Benny has all the tools to get the win here. Both men have similarly well rounded games and I'd even give Diego the edge on the ground, but Benny's TDDefence is off the charts good. I expect the deciding factor here to be pace and intent. Diego will push more volume, but Dariush will have the power on his punches. And despite Diego being good at drowning his opponents he takes his shots to get there (so does Benny). Both men have about a ~60% strike defence which is great, but the striking accuracy is about 15% in the favor of Dariush who has fought much better strikers than Diego aside from Pettis. It's a close one, but I think Beneil should be about a -150 favorite.

Pantoja vs. Kape
Alexandre Pantoja, DEC
Didn't watch a ton of tape on Kape, but it seems like it's been a good time for prospects outside the UFC to make their case. Between Jiri and Chandler both shocking the world, maybe Kape is next? I'll evaluate when I get a chance to watch more tape on his recent opponents. Because the KOs are only impressive if the opponents are up to scratch. Pantoja would be decimating regional fighters left and right too.

Stamann vs. Ewell
Cody Stamann, DEC
These odds seem a little Whack to me? Tell me how Ewell couldn't follow Song Yadong's path to victory? Cause he definitely could, I just don't think he has the gas tank to keep it up. Probably Staman by decision, but the odds are hot garbage.

Johnson vs. Guida
Michael Johnson, TKO, R3
These guys are making chicken scratch to just fight for basically nothing at this point. All this fight tells me is that these two guys weren't smart with their money. Guida should be retired HoF fighter and teaching at an MMA gym somewhere. Dudes a legend, but he doesn't need to be fighting at the level of the UFC anymore.

Predictions: 6 of 12 Winners, 1 Perfect, 350 Points   |   Tied for 2398th

Overeem vs. Volkov
Alistair Overeem, TKO, R3
It's not so much that I feel comfortable picking Alistair Overeem but rather I don't feel comfortable picking against him. My brain is telling me to pick Alexander Volkov but it just doesn't feel right. Maybe it's because Overeem was one of the first fighters I started following or maybe it's because he's one tough ************ who can take a punch and then some. Maybe it's because deep down I want to see him go on another title run but picking against him just feels so wrong. So I won't.

Ferreira vs. Dariush II
Diego Ferreira, DEC
Diego Ferreira really impressed me with that RNC over Anthony Pettis. I think that this is definitely a step up in competition for him so I not convinced that he'll get a submission again but I can see a comfortable points victory for him.

Pantoja vs. Kape
Manel Kape, TKO, R2
Manel Kape has shown that he can throw some mean hooks with either hand and I can just see one of those landing. He had a great run in Rizin I hope he does well in the UFC as well!

McCann vs. Procópio
Molly McCann, DEC
COME ON MOLLY!!!!! DO IT FOR BRITAIN!!!!!

Rodriguez vs. Marques
Danilo Marques, DEC
Mike Rodriguez has won when I've expected him to lose and lost when I've expected him to win so I'd rather take a chance on the underdog.

Johnson vs. Guida
Clay Guida, TKO, R2
I'm hoping Clay Guida can roll back the years against Michael Johnson.

Volkov is the favorite for a reason, yeah. But you're saying a high IQ fighter like Overeem won't beat a guy who has multiple clear paths to be beaten.

@Kevin Randleman

I'll admit that Chandler looked a lot better than I was expecting him to against Hooker but I think he's got a fair way to go yet before he can face Poirier. For a test that would be a challenge for him but still a possible winnable fight, I want to see him fight Ferguson next.
