Marquez v Pitolo
Predictions: 9 of 10 Winners, 4 Perfect, 580 Points | Tied for 27th with 3 others
Everything about Marquez I’ll say within the context of his last fight, which was over two years ago. Back then he had big power, threw combos rather than just single shots, and walked his opponent down whether or not he was completely exhausted. He was also aggressive throughout the entire fight. That said, he had trouble making weight, gassed in later rounds (he was still aggressive, just super sloppy), and completely lowered his hands by the third round. He wasn’t the quickest dude, and his movement was always pretty stiff. It’s hard to know what adjustments he’s made, but he hasn’t gotten any younger, so I can’t imagine the weight cut is easier (unless he’s become way more disciplined). And unless he’s addressed the cardio issue, he’ll always be susceptible to big counter shots. Pitolo is someone who I was really excited about until I actually watched him in the UFC. He has power, but it seems that you need more than that to beat top-level competition. In his last fight he was a bit gun-shy, and when he did throw, it was single shots as opposed to combinations. He’s also what I call a defensive fighter with bad defense. His defensive approach is more roll-with-the-punches and he seems content to leave his hands down, but that won’t work if you let your opponent dictate the range, which is what Pitolo does. He has a decent chin, but his volume declines throughout the fight and he constantly lets his opponents make the first move. He’s lost 7 times, 5 by being finished, but he hasn’t been KO’d since 2016. However, his defensive style tells me it’s just a matter of time before he goes out again. With Marquez’s aggression and power, and with Maki’s tendency to let his opponents dictate the pace and range of the fight, I have to go with Marquez by KO in the 2nd or 3rd.

yeah, maybe. but i think burns is a way more well rounded fighter than costa and usman is nowhere near izzy's level as a striker.

you're right, usman has a clinch heavy, lay and pray type of control game. imo burns is a better all around mixed martial artist than usman. its hard to figure why usman covington ended up a pure striking match. if usman was cautious about going to the mat with colby whats he going to be thinking going into this fight? i just hope burns has been working double time on his cardio because i went all in on him in the wagering league. lol.
It was my assumption that Usman/Covington stayed on the feet because Colby got under Marty's skin - and the skin of pretty much everyone in Marty's circle. Usman wanted to beat the hell out of Covington, so he kept it standing. Colby is a more energetic, volume-based striker, and he might have won the fight if he'd made it to the final bell. Covington doesn't have real knockout power in his punches, though, whereas Usman...does. Ergo Covington turning the mat into a biohazard zone and getting TKOed.
Usman doesn't enjoy such a clear power striking advantage over Burns - that boy will slay you. Likewise the submissions, of course - Burns can finish the fight no matter where it goes. Usman has better ring generalship and will likely dictate the fight - he kept a D1 wrestler on his feet for five rounds, for crying out loud - but unlike with Covington where that led to a (relatively) clear winning path (i.e., breaking that kayfabe jerk's face), Usman can't count on outslugging Burns, and, though he might be able to control Burns on the ground for a while, that's a DANGEROUS place to be with this guy.
Marty's path to victory in this fight will be a tightrope walk - maybe keep it standing to gauge if Burns can hurt him, try to grind it out on the mat if it turns out he can. I've got Usman picked (Lopers - got to represent), but Burns has a lot of ways to win.

thats a pretty spot on breakdown with the bottom line being, burns has more paths to victory. if burns comes out firing 5 or 6 of those power kicks to usmans leg and body like hes known to do he might force usman to shoot early...man, its hard to say how it will play out. its too bad this fight has to headline an otherwise ****** ppv.

Pitolo is a good underdog in this fight honestly, Marquez has been out since 2018, the sylistic matchup also kinda leans towards Pitolo. Pitolo's worse performance was from a bad weight cut to welterweight against Potter and taking a fight shortly after fighting Stewart to fight Impa.

Prediction Comments
Predictions: 2 of 4 Winners, 0 Perfect, 115 Points | Tied for 3946th
Kamaru Usman, DEC
Usman will score takedowns while not taking enough damage for burns to get decision and is definitely getting knocked out.
Marquez vs. Pitolo
Julian Marquez, SUB, R1
Julian has many first round finishes and I don't see why Maki would be immune to them especially when it is Julian administering them.
Green vs. Rowe
Philip Rowe, DEC
Philip Rowe 7 inch reach advantage to keep him scoring without getting scored on.
Vieira vs. Hernandez
Rodolfo Vieira, TKO, R1
Basing this on looks of each fighter and Vieira being undefeated.
Green vs. Miller
Bobby Green, DEC
Bobby Green had a nice performance against Lando Vannata and I don't see Jim Miller being any more of a challenge than Lando.

pitolo almost looks like a set up win for marquez to come back to. pitolo is **** and 1-3 in the ufc. he will get cut after this loss.
rowe having a 7" reach advantage means nothing when he doesnt utilize it. green by decision.
