Ritson vs. Vazquez

Just returned from a short break and fortunately we have this excellent Matchroom Boxing Fightcard from the Newcastle Arena to watch this evening, before the real fireworks get underway in the early hours of Sunday morning when Vasily Lomachenko battles Teofimo Lopez for all the Lightweight Division Gold in the US... Exclusively available to watch in the UK via Fite TV by the way... Both Boxing cards look terrific and are well worth the watch... Especially the US Card... However this Newcastle card also looks tasty with some competitive bouts booked... Really looking forward to watching the likes of Thomas Patrick Ward, who hasn't fought in a year, but is currently at 29 - 0 and probably will be fighting in a World Championship Eliminator bout at Super Bantamweight for one of the belts in the first quarter of next year (subject to winning this evening of course)... Then there is Joe Laws who is a local Newcastle area lad, fighting and carving a career out for himself domestically at Welterweight... Laws always produces an action fight and even though he his fighting an Unbeaten opponent this evening, he his effectively fighting a smaller Super Lightweight opponent who appears on paper to be a level below Laws, so for me it would be good to see if Laws can get the stoppage, which I think he can... Qais Ashfaq Vs Marc Leach should be a very good technical battle, but one that I also expect Ashfaq to come through comfortably on points... Although I also expect Leach to put on a strong performance as it is an eliminator to go on next and fight for the British Title... Ashfaq appears to be a higher calibre fighter with a much more extensive Amateur career, which I think will stand him in good stead for this upcoming fight... Kane Baker has delayed retirement after a recent close points loss to come back and take on a Tony Bellew Unbeaten in 5 Liverpool fighter... Should be a close points decision looking at the two on paper, but I personally think Baker will be right up for it and can see him pulling off the W... Finally, Lewis Ritson Vs Miguel Vasquez (ex IBF Lightweight World Champion who made numerous defences between 2010 - 2014 before losing via a Split Points Decision to Mickey Bey in 2014)... Vazquez is an awkward, skillful Boxer with excellent footwork who has only been stopped twice... One of those times was by Josh Taylor 🏴🇬🇧 before Taylor became a World Champion... Tonight I really think Lewis Ritson will also find the way, probably past the Midway mark to impose his will against a fighter who isn't a natural Super Lightweight and appears somewhat of a faded force and I think Ritson will earn a Stoppage Victory, possibly with a huge body shot, which we all know Ritson throws so well 🏴🏁... On Sky Sports from 19:00pm, looking forward to the action 🤔🥊👊👍

The Matchroom Boxing Event is actually now being held at an Arena in Peterborough instead... Without fans in attendance, I guess the venue is just that, a venue... Come on Ritson, time to prove yourself 🤔🥊👊👍

A great debut from Ellie Scotney who controlled the action throughout her contest with Bec Connolly and deservedly Won every round...Only wish she could have taken the victory with a finish to cap off a very good performance...🤔👏🥊👊👍

I may have called it pre-fight, but Referee's shouldn't judge fights because they often call the action wrong....I thought Kane Baker with all of his experience stood a great chance of winning tonight, but 59 - 55 was definitely Not the correct score...It was closer to a draw as per Matt Macklin's card at the end of the 5th Round and I had Speare winning by 1 Round...A lot of Baker's work was scrappy and not point scoring...It just bamboozles me how some fights were scored...It was a close fight! 🤨🥊👊👍

I picked Speare and I thought he lost nearly every round! At least by 4 rounds to 2 for Baker.
I think the Sky commentary sways your opinion sometimes Jay bud. I've seen you a few times agreeing with Macklin cards! Md personally think Macklins a terrible judge!!!! Haha
The Rachel Ball Shannon Courtenay fight Springs to mind. 

Tommy Ward had a mare here!!!! 

I thought that the Thomas Patrick Ward Vs Thomas Essomba official decision was a fair result in the end...I had Patrick Ward up by 2 Rounds, but he did find the contest a difficult night's work, which surprised me somewhat...However, Essomba's  Professional Boxing Record is deceiving...Essomba fought very well, but he was pushed onto his back foot often and out punched in a lot of the Rounds, but the contest was highly competitive, no doubt! 🤔🥊👊👍

Bad night for the Geordies so far!!!  Not a good sign for Ritson!! 

Rylan Charlton, that was impressive....Strong skilled boxer has just announced himself and gave Laws a real beating over the 3 Rounds to be fair...Excellent performance and he certainly took care of business on his first TV fight this evening...Well Done, I look forward to watching Charlton again 🤔👏🥊👊👍

I'm slowly changing my thought regarding the next fight, because of what is on the line...I think the more I analyse it that Ashfaq takes an early lead by being that little bit sharper and technically better and then I see Ashfaq finding a Stoppage from Round 7, when Leach is pushing forward, trying to close the distance and look the busier...Either way though, Ashfaq for me! 🤔🥊👊👍

The Venue is currently without Ambulances as both Patrick Ward and Laws have been sent to Hospital... Seperately...Patience is a virtue Mikey...Plus we get to hear from Tony Scouse Bellew and the lovely Anna Woolhouse in the interim...🤔👊🥊👍

Qais Ashfaq was terrible tonight...What the hell is happening on this card...Marc Leach is average at best...Yes he did well tonight and probably was a deserving winner, but I don't even see Leach winning a European Title based on that performance and Ashfaq is an ex Olympic pedigree Amateur... He just couldn't get going and looked knackered from Round 5 onwards....Really surprising based on previous performances and records on paper... That's Boxing I guess.... 🤨🤔 Well done Marc Leach !! 🥊👊👍

Ritson got a gift!!!!
What a strange boxing card. Only 1 favourite won clearly, Scotney. Ritson given a gift. And 3 UPSETS!!! Anyone who follows boxing knows how rare that is!

Hopefully it's a good sign for Teofimo to get the upset tonight!!! 

I got Vazquez at 5/1 to Win on points with a £25 Stake and at the start of Round 11, I made an executive decision to Cash it out, thinking Ritson would go for it...With a minute gone in Round 12, I put £10 on a draw at 14/1...Reason, Vazquez's style doesn't win fights in the UK, unless they punch with more authority and accuracy...Unfortunately Vazquez either couldn't, wouldn't or doesn't, so I smelled a strange decision a brewing...Personally I thought Vazquez won by 5 to 6 Rounds by old manning Ritson, but the forward pressure and heavier shots from Ritson obviously counted for something, or at least with 2 of the judges... An eventful strange card in the end, but enjoyable at the same time...Plus we got to see Rylan Charlton perform and make a bit of a statement at the same time...Impressive and dominant performance from Ellie Scotney and a strong performance from Marc Leach 🤨🤔👏🥊👊👊🥊👍
