The 2020 Olympics would have started on Friday if it wasn't for the Covid-19 Pandemic and it got me thinking; should MMA be in the Olympics?

There are already some other combat sports in the Olympics (Boxing, Taekwondo and Judo are included) so why not MMA? It also raises a few other questions such as:

Should it be professional or amateur level MMA?
How many rounds should each fight last?
How long should the rounds be?
Should the fights be in a ring or a cage?
Which weight classes should be included?
Should their be any other "different" rules in place that are not in typical MMA rules? If so, why?

Personally, I would like to see it being an amateur competition because I feel that it would be easier to organise as professional contracts, such as UFC contracts, could possibly get in the way of Olympic participation (we all know what Dana's like!) and also because boxing was an amateur level sport in the Olympics (though there were talks of professional boxers being allowed to compete at the 2020 Olympics) and that provided a good stepping stone for the fighters before turning pro.

As for the other questions, I would like to see the fights being 3 rounds lasting 5 minutes as I feel that 5 rounds should be reserved for really big fights such as title fights or in this case, maybe the gold medal fight. It should be noted that I'm not a huge fan of the Olympics and I don't rate it that highly. I just watch the Boxing, Taekwondo, Judo, Football ("Soccer" for our American friends) and any hurdle events just for the comedic value of when they fall over, thus ending their Olympic hopes and dreams in painful yet hilarious fashion!

I also think that it should be in a cage, simply because you don't see that many sports that use cages so it would make a change but then again, it would probably be easier just to reuse the boxing rings.

As for the weight classes, I think there should be the Flyweight, Lightweight, Welterweight, Middleweight, Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight classes for both the men and women (or maybe less depending on how many competitors qualify for each division).

Lastly, I don't think their should be any "different" MMA rules included as I just can't think of any that would need to be included.

What do you guys and girls think? Should MMA be an Olympic sport and if so, how should it be organised?
