Just a few odd things I noticed, perhaps someone can clarify.

Jones is ranked 2, but Reyes at 23? This seems a large difference to me. Volkanovski and Holloway are 4 places apart, Usman and Masvidal are 18 places apart, but Jones & Reyes, who had a closer fight, are 21 places? Seems like a lot to me, for such a close fight.

Burns is #32 and Woodley is #29?

These places seem heavily wrong to me, but perhaps that's just me

I don't really agree with it either personally but P4P is always a tough one to judge because some weight divisions have much better talent than others (I'd argue that the Lightweight division is one of the most competitive in the world or at least, it's my favourite division) and also because you tend to see different styles and tactics depending on the different divisions. You can see this with fighters who move up and down the weight classes on a regular basis often fight differently depending on what weight they are fighting at. For instance, if they are fighting in a higher weight division they might use the extra weight to their advantage and try to put more physical pressure on their opponent.

As for Tapology's official ranking itself, it is put together by the users who submit their own rankings. The 100 most recent rankings are included in the list. Obviously the users are all individuals with their own opinions and biases so you're not necessarily going to get a 100% statically accurate ranking but it serves as a good basis to make judgments on. Think of it as more of a "MMA fans opinion ranking".

I hope that clears it up a little bit. Welcome to Tapology Bunman7!

Thanks for the responses!

Personally, I feel like averaging 100 fans is probably a better ranking system than 10 random guys with internet pages that signed up 5 years ago, so I prefer Tapology to the UFC Rankings lol.

I suppose it also depends how regularly the fans update their rankings, and how thoroughly.

@Bunman7

That's true, there are a lot of users who make a ranking once but never update them. That's why only the latest 100 are included so that ones that were made years ago eventually get taken out of consideration. There's no perfect system for rankings but Tapology's is better than most.

Correction

I've just checked out some of Tapology's official rankings and it seems that I was mistaken when I said that all lists used the 100 latest user rankings as the "Favorite Fighter" ranking uses the 100 latest rankings but the "P4P Women's" ranking only uses the latest 75 user rankings. Not sure exactly why that is.

I've also had a look and I believe all of the ranking lists from Tapology are from varying numbers of most recent (Probably based on popularity of each list) and I believe fan list recency can be edited by the creator.

Yeah, I think that's how it works. For instance, if you made a ranking 5 years ago and it dropped off the official ranking contributions but you then added to or updated that ranking today, then it counts as one of the latest contributions.

The fact that none of you guys have Douglas Lima in your top 5 is the real shame

@NickySwaz

He's a very good fighter but after looking over my P4P ranking again, I still can't convince myself that he's one of the world's top 15 P4P fighters. If I extended my ranking to a top 30 he'd probably be included though. It's not that I think he's bad, it's just that I think the other fighters are better.

Douglas Lima

Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't realise Lima was so low in my welterweight rankings, so I've bumped him up a few. Unfortunately, I can't quite bring myself to put Lima above Woodley at this time.

No comment... Only cause if Woodley found himself fighting Lima I'd bet he fights more aggressive then he has been.

Lima VS Woodley

That would defiantly be an interesting fight but my gut feeling is that it would end up being a close, tactical fight where they cancel each other out with Woodley winning by a unanimous or majority decision. Or maybe something else entirely, you never know with MMA. Actually, thinking about it, I've just hypothetically picked Woodley to win by a decision which, judging by the accuracy of my picks, means that absolutely will not happen!

I've just jinxed it.

Sorry Woodley.

not hate, not at all. but we have limited resources and need to move carefully in how we roll out improvements for mobile. they will come, but it will be piece by piece, slowly. it won't be all at once.
