Small new feature now available. If there is another user that is annoying you, "triggering" you, or whatever, you can now optionally:
- Block them from DMing/commenting on your page
- Have their posts hidden when reading forum threads
To use the feature, just visit the profile page of any user. To the right of their username will be a gear icon allowing you to modify your "relationship" with that user.
Hope this helps reduce some of the friction when there is known bad blood.

I'm pretty familiar with this system and while I can't fault the logic of adding it, it does lead to weird syntaxical problems between users and my experience of it is that what tends to happen is if people really hate one another they just toggle it on/off while they have a ****fight then block one another when they've had enough for that particular exchange.
You also get a lot of this: 'What's he saying about me?!

This feature is not related to our policies for temporary suspensions or permanent bans. Behaviors leading to suspensions/bans are ones that are deemed to have violated the rules of the website.
However, there lots of arguments and issues where people aren't necessarily violating the rules of the website, but other users still want some kind of "power" to do something about it to protect their own experience on the website. That's what this feature is meant for.

I get why you're doing it though. And at least now nobody can accuse you of not giving them the choice to opt out.

I'll also add that I don't expect a lot of people to use this system. But in the past when we receive either frivolous or ambiguous complaints, we don't really have anything we can do for the user except say "sorry man, we can't really moderate this situation" or "sorry man, we don't even understand what you guys are talking about."
But now we can at least direct people to these features.

Edit: Not criticizing these new developments. It sucks being a mod. I've had to do it on a couple of forums over the years. It's a thankless grind, it is like trying to herd cats, there's rarely ever consensus that any implemented change is right, and everybody thinks you're ******* up/they can do it better than you.
And every fifteen minutes you get accused of power abuse.

@hippie that wasn't on purpose, just an unintended side effect. duly noted and will be fixed back to the way it was shortly.
