Simply install custom mesh with dramatically reduced aperture that is too small for finger/toes to fit through. Flat and not rounded. Only issue I can see is reduced visibility, there'd need to be a work around for this. I wonder if a mesh of clear PBI could be fabricated that would work, containing no metal at all.
What do we think?

Agree something needs to be done. Any1 catch Cody’s cage grabbing? Could have lead to his last KO if I’m looking at this clearly.

Visibility already sucks enough right now. Adding more to that will be bad. Mob mentality would be ugly. People screaming no justice no peace.
Best bet is 1 point deduction, no warning, 3 strikes and your DQ

Or that, yeah. Refs need to start docking points for flagrant grabs.

I agree, why make a rule when you can make something impossible from the get go? It might present a lot of unpredictable viewing issues though

@aquador It might make those shots where they're looking through the mesh hard if there's blood/sweat/spit on the walls, but I can't think of too much else, and I think that's an acceptable loss to prevent cage grabs.
@ImperatorFishrat True, but with the resources the UFC has, I bet it wouldn't be too hard to figure something out.

They could also do a regular octagon with a clear layer of plastic covering the inside, with the mesh on the outside.

Too dangerous IMO. If a fighter got their face pressed in to it they couldn't breathe. And there's no plastic strong enough to withstand the kind of force fighting would put on it....very tricky.

Turn MMA into hockey basically by making the floor ice and the enclosure solid glass. First fighter to not die of hypothermia wins

^ This, but also in main event fights a tiger is let into the octagon if the fight reaches round 3. And it has a sword stapled to it.

I agree with @Xconchris. The refs need to come down much harder on cage grabbers. His idea of a 1 point deduction, no warning, 3 strikes = DQ sounds fair enough to me.
The only thing to consider would be the circumstances. If a fighter is being attacked and they grab the cage just due to natural instinct then the above rule should be applied. If they deliberately grab the cage to give themselves an advantage such as in the example that @Hippie provided where they grab the cage to steady themselves to set up a KO then I feel that an instant DQ would be fair.

Simple math to me point deduct center ring grappler would get their win as other loses point striker gets the reset and lame ass gets point deducted.
WIn win win win and give herb the sword or a bat "get your finger out whack" point deduct also digit.
That cody grab is weird hes to stupid to plan that could be programmed though, or reflex like the hughes/newton cage engagements.
Poly wont work as many fighter push off and they would slide off and there is no rule against pushing far as I know.
Dont quote me but I believe some muy thai is done is small hockey ring type enclosures tall polly walls 2 doors.
Most notably will all interfere with filming slightly ref need to man the **** up or hire some of the guys from Japan they are hardcore.

plexiglass seems like it would be an all around improvement. You could put little windows and doors by the corners. I'm sure there's a way to make the outside non-reflective for camera flashes etc. and you'd actually be able to see way better than the chain link cage. It would open up a lot of nice highlight angles.
It would allow for slams into the wall but it could also, pretty easily, have wall suspension to eliminate the added risk. Alternatively you could have a padded bottom foot or so to avoid the hard corners, just like they have on the octagon corners, without affecting visibility too much.
It could also be easily cleaned between rounds or between fights.
Or they could just decide to enforce or allow cage grabbing.

I also think they should try and make smaller punishment for all fouls because refs don't want to give out 1 point deduction because it to big of a penalty in most case, But can't think of anything yet tho

Why are they not making it legal? Most equitable way to do and more realistic.
