Josh Emmett   vs.   Shane Burgos 


My pick for FOTN. Potential to be a barnburner, and violence is assured.


Now, this is a coin-toss. Both guys have paths to victory, and anyone who says they're confident on the outcome should be discounted out of hand. Burgos is a better technical fighter than Emmett. He's much more varied and high output. One hypothetical future plays out as Burgos utilizing his low calf kicks to set up straight combinations, just staying out of Emmett's range, and getting a 30-27 or a late KO/TKO.

However:

Emmett has nasty, nasty one-shot life ending power, and as we've seen in the Johnson fight, it carries through to the later rounds. He does have the cardio to go hard for three. As long as he's on two legs, he's always dangerous.

I think this fight is going to be a case of Burgos winning until he loses. Very similar to the Kattar fight. Emmett really only does need one. One thing Burgos does basically every fight is push his head forward in the center line as he's winging doubled-up chute-to-box type hooks. He can roll and use short combinations inside but doesn't do this enough.

This is a bad habit to have against a guy like Emmett. Very bad. It gets worse when you consider how eager Burgos is to trade punches, stand in space and bang it out. He's not Michel Johnson. He won't be on his pony. He'll be coming forward, swinging.

Burgos has to get it right basically all the time over fifteen. Emmett just has to get it right once over the course of fifteen.

I'm taking Emmett by stoppage late in the second, and won't be surprised if I'm wrong.
