ONE Championship: A New Tomorrow

Bruce was great. He was a character, and the site needs characters. I wouldn't even bother logging in if there weren't people here I enjoy talking to and arguing with. I even like engaging  with complete ****stains like Tepid, and if I had the power to perma ban him, I would not use it. It's all about the social decor. Forums are social experiences. You know who the worst people in the world are? The people who want to surround themselves with people who think and feel exactly the way they do, The Flower-nibblers, churchmice, and narcissists who either cannot handle the the world without filters or do not want it, and who, not being able to handle words on the internet, should not be on it.

The site is less interesting without Bruce's unpredictable explosions of grandiosity, ridicule and acerbity. I enjoyed it all personally, even when I was on the receiving end, and often it resulted in hilarious exchanges. And now that's gone, and what has grown in the vacuum is nothing and boring, dispassionate piffle.

I do not want a grey,  Koom ba ya forum in where all people do is dole out facile compliments, where  people are too scared to say what they think, or too fearful to engage, because they fear the repercussions. I do not want a Teletubbies Tapology. I want a jungle, not a plantation of poplars. If that ever happens, the site should die. That would be a fate worse than death.  Obviously there have to limitations on what can be said, but these should as least-invasive as possible.

Greg gets it right mostly. Bruce forced his hand and I can't blame him for doing it though I do feel 10 years was extreme.

Well, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the play, Mrs Lincoln. What difference does it make whether or not he was a prick? I do not even disagree with you--he absolutely was a prick. A rather entertaining one whose escapades and outbursts made the site more entertaining. There will always be pricks in the world, but they are not all created equal. At least Bruce was interesting. The pricks we have now are drying paint.

No Free. It isn't. Anything that makes this site more boring does not improve it. I have had heated exchanges with many people on this site. It doesn't mean more than what it means in the moment. Even Swain has gone mental at me occasionally, and probably will do again. I don't carry it forward, because I like him. That's the world.

Mikey is an excellent Editor, but he should never be given moderation powers. I am personally very glad Greg is the only Mod who has the authority to issue bans..
