I still can’t get over a 49-46 scoring from one judge. That absolutely blows my mind.
But what kills me is this - That fight was a Unanimous Decision, whereas the Santos bout was Split.
You’re gonna look me dead in the eye and say Santos did a better job against Jon than Reyes did?
There’s no way. Matter of fact, I rewatched that Santos fight a week ago and I scored it for Jon.
As for last night’s fight... though it was close, I thought it was pretty clear that Reyes won. What’s sad is that if hadn’t been a title fight he probably would have.
My main take away is this - That fight showed that Jones absolutely can be beat.
A week ago I would’ve told you he’d destroy Adesanya in a fight. Now I’m not so sure.
And a move to Heavyweight... I might lean towards Stipe.
This may be an unpopular opinion as well, but I think Johnny Walker would/will give Jones a really hard time. I know Jon still wants that fight to happen, too.

ONE doesn't have these issues because they can have their own judges and referees.

And i might sound crazy but i belive Jon paid those judges to make him win, Jon fought with no urgency in round 3 when he loss round 1 and 2 and he never push the pase in the fight because he didn't want to risk getting KO'd and Jon lost it because he wasn't active in it

@Tepid you cannot have Judiciaries governed by executives. That's how you get dictatorships.

If you have a UFC Fight Pass subscription, take the time to watch from UFC 8 to UFC 20. The UFC had judges that actually understood what they were watching, and they weren't regulated back then. They also scored the fight in its entirety, the way MMA is supposed to be scored.

There was a time where an athletic commission would sanction a UFC event, but the UFC could still use its own rules.

Dude that in the 90's when MMA was an emergent thing, the landscape is totally different now. There's so much more money in the industry now. Back then, it wouldn't have been worth it to anyone to have in-house judges leaning it in for various fighters, nobody even cared. Now? It's all the UFC can do to get Conor Mcgregor a belt. In the current atmosphere it would be unthinkable to have Judges on the payroll in plain sight. It also wouldn't be in the interests of a company promoting something as 'real as it gets'. UFC want to distinguish what they have as real from the theatrical....this is what their entire brand is predicated upon. That has been the goal from the beginning. UFC prefers things the way they are now; they can lobby omissions and Judges to help get the outcomes they want and still retain their brand image.

Judges should only be eligible to judge one specific sport, there shouldn't be boxing judges judging MMA.

The UFC should also cut fighters like Conor McGregor and Colby Covington, because they make the sport of MMA look horrible.

Agreed, but you can't have UFC appointed Judges. You'd basically be ensuring systemic corruption above and beyond what we already see. You're living in a world in which judges scored it for Colby in the Usman fight and gave Conor a round against Khabib. A world in which Herb Dean ignored over a dozen blatant fouls by Mcgregor in that fight.. It's already bad.

I would rather have a product that I can promote to people that enjoy MMA because it's an honorable sport, not because people constantly insult each other. I would also want my fighters seen as respectable athletes, not thugs.

@tepid55 you make great points but u completely neglect the business side which is arguably the most important to the owners. And therefore the most likely to happen.

Also a big shout out to our very own Stevie 'Skelli' Kelliher for scoring it for Reyes.
