Many fighters have fought after losing a loved one
Recently, Lyman Good fighting after his Father died. Nobody gave a **** though.
Also, Walt Harris fought after his step daughter was murdered.
Difference is Khabib is getting the special treatment. Sorry if that sounds macabre.

Also ufc can't seem to strip guys fast enough but Dana surely See's a chance to shoehorn McGregor into the interim picture against gaethje and if Connor wins habib can't refuse a rematch as it would be a title unification match. Habib's choices would then be fight McGregor or retire or relinquish and move divisions.
Also if he retires his father will roll over in his grave.

2. Whoever decided to get in the cage and fight right after they lost a loved one has my upmost respect.
I'm well aware of these other fighters, but correct me if I'm wrong when I'm say that they didn't have a belt to defend. Don't you think that that is a determining factor here?
Also, I don't think (and HOPE) that anybody was FORCED to get back in there to fight when they did.
And not to take anything away from the relationship between any of these fighters and the ones they lost, but Khabib was super close to his father. Have you guys seen the video where he didn't want to talk about anything other than his father with the media.
One of the first thoughts I had after hearing about Khabib's father passing away was that he could just choose to not fight anymore, but I don't think he will, since he seems like he's all about his legacy. And yes @free, his father would roll over in his grave. But does anyone really think that he should stripped at this moment?
I wonder what's going to happen now...will there be another title fight for the interim belt which Garth will be defending? Or will he be fighting someone else for the actual belt?

From what I've read it wasn't actually that close.
He heard about his death on may 27th and fought on june 6th.
Still close, heartbreaking and truly strong of him to proceed with the fight.

Why was Gilbert Melendez suspended?

Gilbert Melendez was recently suspended by USADA for two years, after a bit of a complicated situation that went through arbitration. The former Strikeforce champion was tested and sanctioned after his UFC release, and it doesn’t seem to be something he is happy with.
“I’m an inactive fighter,” Melendez told ESPN. “I was released from the UFC before this test was taken. I believe [USADA] has no jurisdiction over me. ... I’m a private citizen and it’s no one’s business what I’m putting into my body at that point.”
Melendez stated that he considers the arbitration ruling as a victory, as he was only banned from competing in the UFC. He can still technically compete in other organizations and corner teammates in the UFC, but considers himself “retired” and is focusing on “recovering my body.”
“In USADA’s release, I believe they failed to recognize that all the arbitrator awarded them was that I can’t fight in the UFC for two years — which I wasn’t going to do anyway, because I was released.”
While it may be correct to argue that “it’s no one’s business” what he puts in his body now, it is worth pointing out that Melendez (and USADA) did not know he was already released when he was tested.
Melendez also previously failed another drug test in 2015 for exogenous testosterone metabolites.
