Maaaan number 1 and 2 are about equal in my book... But definitely not in the odds makers mind. If I can remember, Holly was like a +800/+700 underdog

How can the same train be derailed twice? lmfao
Number 1 hype train derailed was Kazushi Sakuraba taking Royce to school on the ground.

I feel like the train was back on the rails after the second Diaz fight.
Sakuraba vs Royce...ehhhhh. I mean he'd won most of his fights by sub, had already subbed royler at that point and was always a better striker. Made some heads pop at the time. Subbed Renzo a few fights later too.

that's not how trains work.
BJJ went from nothing to being the martial-art to beat every martial-art to being something easily manipulated by Japanese catch-wrestlers to being just another martial-art.
That's a hype train derailed if you ask me.

Pretty sure if a train gets derailed that's not the end of the train Bruce lol.
BJJ definitely had a moment of hype that won't be equaled but it's not like it's gone away. Still one of the big four influences in martial arts; wrestling, muay thai, BJJ, boxing.

As much as I liked McGregor vs Diaz, I dont think it derailed the hype train due to the fact that he won the rematch and went on to be double champ as well. I think the loss made him even more popular in my opinion with the way he took it with pride

Pretty sure you're not getting what a hype train is @Fish

man !! one of the biggest derails was this English guy on TUF Bisping vs Hendo ( UK vs USA ) and this guy was the top pick everyone feared this gym beast but in his TUF fight he didnt want to go out for 3rd round and forfeited it was a really interesting one, he forfeited to one of Hendo's last picks

Pico was the worst hype train... the equivalence of David price or Audley Harisson in boxing!

Boom! Roasted!
Rousey hype train is certainly the biggest derailment id say.
Jj was a good one too.
I dont think conor's was ever derailed since his hype train is bigger then ever.
He derails himself more with his own words then any fighter he fights has.
Can u believe he call habib's wife a towel? And then says plot twist there's a goat under the towel.
OMG!

i think conors train has left the station permanently. hes turned into a raving lunatic and he sinks to new lows daily. the money ruined conor, the proper 12 and the coke are just icing on the cake. im going to make a bold prediction here and say conor never wins another fight in the ufc.

@ phil there's always going to be enough wannabes out there who care more about fighters' earning potential than how well they can actually fight to keep him relevant. Quite possible he never fights again though. Certainly isn't acting like a man who has any intention of doing that.

I agree honestly, even though I don't give a crap about what they said. Until Conor proves he can win another MMA fight its just words. Though, I just feel like once you get the full UFC hype job that's basically it. They constantly just recycle old footage anyway.
and I don't want a rematch right now. Fook that.
Frazier beat the snot outta Ali in the rematch. Smokin' Joe was in his prime and Ali was like a year removed from jail time and beat some bums by DEC...disgusting beatdown.
But then Foreman KO'd Frazier and the rest is history ;) Who is our Foreman? Ferguson or Gaethje?

Calling Khabib's wife a towel was funny though. Has anyone seen her? I wonder if she's sexy.

as they say, styles make fights, joe had the perfect style to give ali problems no matter how many times they fought. but that style didnt present much of a problem to george. georges problem was that he wasnt a very smart fighter, ali devised the perfect game plan and stuck to it, george was unable to adjust his style, what we would call today, zero fight iq. and like you said the rest is history.
im not quite sure what you mean with the foreman, ferguson, gaethje reference though.

- MassaBruce
For sure, Frazier was a stylistic nightmare for Ali but would've had to get lucky vs Foreman.
I mean, if you don't see the resemblance to this whole potential scenario man, idk what to say.

Ali and Frazier were quite similar fighters and had a lot of respect for one another. I don't read too much into the foreman vs frazier fight, Joe was at the tail end of his career at that point and foreman was in his prime. He should have beaten Ali really. I don't think I'll ever be able to explain how Ali just absorbed all that body work. Shouldn't have been possible from a puncher like George.
Foreman literally would break heavy bags. After a hard session, they had to be repacked because he had literally punched the stuffing from the middle of them to the top and bottom.

I think what Bruce is saying is that Mcgregor won't beat khabib, but tony could, and mcgregor could beat tony. It's definitely a plausible idea and one I'm 50/50 on. More sure about Mcgregor beating Tony than Tony beating Khabib though. I think Tony would keep getting close to a sub but not quite get it and would spend too much time in guard, and lose a decision. Wouldn't surprise me ifTony made something stick, wouldn't surprise me if Tony sliced Mcgregor to pieces either. Who knows?
