I started a podcast doing UFC Analysis/Fight Picks.  The picks are all done via a formula, and have been going pretty well thus far, so I decided to start a podcast about it.  Please give it a listen if you would be so kind.

The show can be found on iTunes as well as here on ShoutEngine: http://shoutengine.com/TheFightingSpirit/ufc-fight-night-barboza-vs-gaethje-analysis-76038

With a zero pick percentage on tapology there is 0% chance of anyone caring. No offense. Fyi everyone on tapology is a fight picking expert. aka we're all sick ****s!

Well, I guess I better start entering picks here then.  I appreciate the candid response.  How do you go about picking fights though?  Do you use some sort of metric/formula like I do, or do you go off of your knowledge and gut instincts?

I find the best way is when you've actually seen both fighters in their most recent performance.
Otherwise it's just an educated guess.

What's your formula?
There is a couple of bots on here that the creators made one use to only pick favorites.
He was called odds bot and finished with a 67% win percentage.
Another one flips a coin and is around 50%

I'm at about 62% since the first version of the formula to today overall.  My latest picks on the podcast have been a bit better lately though.

My formula actually picked both Masvidal and Pettis these past two events.  The formula is my secret sauce though, I can't really share it.  I can tell you that the data is all fairly easy to find, but it's how I manipulate it that's important.

My best performance to date was on the podcast for Lewis vs Dos Santos, I went 11-2.

MMA is built for upsets and underdogs though, so no one will totally lock it down.  I'm just trying to find a slight edge

I picked Masvidal and Pettis too, and I'm no ******* nostradamus.

There is no system, or formula, for picking fights. Not one that makes sense anyway. There's just statistics, and probabilities relative to each matchup which are influenced by variables and subject to them, and these are always in a flux. If you believe you have a secret sauce, you're just a deluded imbecile who has committed to a fallacy based on confirmation bias, or a precocious adolescent who hasn't yet learned humility and is merrily skipping up the garden path to ruin. There is no third option.

You do realize there's a program operating on this site that literally just flips a coin on every fight and has beaten every single human being on here to win dozens of events. right? The oddsbot code, which is something else, has one of if not the highest pick percentage on the site, and it does nothing but pick favorites.

You don't know ****, Kid. The sooner you realize that, the more often you'll stop hurting yourself. The number off people I have seen join this forum talking about how they have unlocked the universal secretes of prize fighting gambling who have gone on to embarrass themselves is amazing. Not only is it amazing, but it is invariable.

Knowledge is not Wisdom. And you will either figure that out for yourself ahead of time, or the world will teach it to you the hard way.

I usually submit my picks from the ****ter at work while looking at the complete card for the first and break 62%.

ImperatorFishrat: Wow, that's quite the bit of poetic slamming you've done there.  If you're picking over 62% off the cuff, that's freaking awesome!  I'm by no means claiming to be an MMA fight picking profit, I know that I'm going to bomb out again with my picks.  I just like doing the show and putting my picks out there.  In fact, I know the picks will sometimes be bad so I do a post-fight retrospective show just to go over how bad or good I did.  Trying to predict the future is the most humbling thing one can do.

I wish you all the best with your own endevours/fight picks, and feel free to write into the show so I can read this there.

freemoneyforall: Thanks, man!  I'll have my picks for UFC 236 in by the evening of 4/9.  If you've added my show to your podcasts, I really appreciate it.

I post an analysis episode every Tuesday and a retrospective after every event, but this Tuesday will be a little different.  I'm posting what I'm calling a Hypecast tomorrow just to fill in for the layoff.

Foreign cards with loads of unknown fighters are always a gamble.  I always have a real lack of confidence in my picks when most of the fighters are making their 1st-3rd fight in the UFC.  That main even though, did anyone else think Oleynik's first move was going to be pulling guard for his Ezekiel Choke?
