After a great win and an end to their rivalry, TJ Dillishaw cements his legacy as one of the best bantamweights ever. Some of the next possible opponents in the division are Raphael Assuncao, Marlon Moraes, and Dominick Cruz. Another great match on this card was the upset win for Henry Cejudo. this opens up many possibilities for his next defense depending on if Demetrious Johnson will be back immediately or has to recover from injuries during his title fight. Other possible opponents in the division are Jussier Formiga, Alejandre Pantoja, or a rematch with Sergio Pettis. what are your thoughts on their next fights and a possible champ vs champ fight?

Cejudo could become the 3rd UFC Champ-Champ within a year. Unbelievable. However, Thrillashaw vs Magic Marlon is a super fight in its own right. Wouldn't mind seeing Cruz get a win and set up that rematch with TJ as well. Lots of possibilities and all of them make money. Win-Win for everybody.

My first pick would be Moraes, second would be Cejudo.

Cruz should fight Assuncao or Rivera.

Hell yeah I'd like to see Cejudo vs Dillashaw. It;s a bit early in the game for Henry to take a crack at two belts and it would definitely play havoc with 135 though. You've got moraes, cruz, assuncao....it would be a pretty big kick in the nuts if they got overlooked because Henry wants to become a two division champ.

And it's not like he just romped Mighty mouse, that was an extremely close fight. If DJ doesn't deserve a rematch then I don't know who the **** does TBH. I doubt Henry wants to do that one over anytime soon however.

I say book Garbrandt vs any of the aforementioned or Lineker, and make Cejudo defend against DJ or someone else. If he gets through one defnese, then it's time to talk moving up.

Ideally, I would like to see another doubleheader, this time consisting of Johnson-Cejudo III and Dillashaw-Cruz 2, with the winners fighting each other.  After 11 defenses including a dominant win over Cejudo, Johnson deserves an immediate rematch.  It was a close fight.  Plus, if Dillashaw wants to call himself the best bantam of all time, he needs a win over Cruz.  He and Cruz are both 2 time champs, both 5-1 in title fights, and Cruz is 1-0 against Dillashaw.

Completely disagree with Cruz getting a title shot. He doesn't deserve anything. Hasn't fought in 2 years, was humiliated and schooled his last fight by the #8 guy at the time, and how many times can he come back from an injury? He's turning 33 and probably out of his physical prime. We need some fresh fights in the division. Giving Cruz a an undeserved title shot it a slap in the face to the people who have been fighting and winning these last 2 years. The best fight to make stylistically is TJ vs Moraes. Raphael deserves a title shot but lets be realistic he's not getting it so the next best thing for him is Cody No Love. And make Cruz vs Lineker to see if Cruz still has something left. If he does than he should be able to style on him.

That is a fair point, but people jump the queue all the time when it comes to title fights.

The fact that Cruz has had so many injuries and is likely near the end of his career is why I think they may as well make the fight now or it may never happen.

How does anyobe think cejudo-mighty mouse was ckose. Daj won striking and Cejudo lay n prayed when he got a takedown that wasnt grandy rolled. The scoring of that fight was atrocious

When you're the P4P best and you spend over 10 minutes on your back all while landing maybe 20 shots in 5 rounds you've clearly lost.

Nah, Bruce is right. In a closely contested fight where significant strikes are about equal, you have to defer to Takedowns, Top time, and ring generalship. DJ landed more insignificant stuff, but Cejudo was the main threat the whole fight, completed takedowns and was the one leading the dance. He deserved the nod.

Takedowns are awarded points by the judges, as is dominance. No points are awarded for defensive actions, including takedown, and striking defense. This is an immensely important aspect of MMA adjudication and something that a lot of fans aren't aware of or have forgotten. Just getting someone to the mat is something looked on favorably by the judges, and how they weight it is mostly contingent upon what a fighter does with top time.

MMA is not scored like boxing, which is really based on who lands the cleaner and more significant shots, and that's about it. A lot of the reason we see ****** scores in MMA is owing to Boxing judges doing the adjudicating, and frankly they don't know **** about anything.

If said fighter isn't landing anything significant and isn't taking anything significant, but still maintains top control for 1/12 minutes thereabouts, that time is awarded to that fighter simply by virtue of maintaining the dominant position. If said fighter is getting busted up from the bottom, then the judges will ( well, should is more accurate) award that time to the fighter on the bottom because he's the one landing damage.Similarly, if a fighter is attacking a sub, and the other is defending, the attacking fighter will be awarded points, not the defender.

Damage is the highest scoring criteria, but damage isn't always being done ( as was the case in Cejudo vs Johnson II). In such a scenario, there is no other recourse but to defer to lesser weighted metrics such as dominance and octagon control.

It's not a perfect method,but...well, there probably isn't one.Scoring mostly by damage and in the absence of this, fighter dominance, is about as good as it is ever going to get. The latter isn't preferable, which is why we have timidity clauses, and situations where refs separate and/or stand fighters back up.

Other than all that, I do agree with you in spirit, and I will always prefer a good standup back-and forth fight to a dryhumping festival.

DJ deserves a rematch especially losing his title in a split after such a long reign.

TJ vs Moraes sounds good or Cruz if Cruz wins his next fight and stays healthy. Bantamweight has a lot of great challengers including a rubber match with Assuncao.
